Thread bump!!!
I've had a windfall and procured a honest quantity of old truck brake drums.
What would one do with such lumps of cast steel, you ask?
An Aarken-Faarken, of course!
The plan is to get the matching drum pairs, and join them end to end. Sizing pending, get some heavy pipe or rolled plate to space it out to a good combustion chamber size.
Invert another drum brake and use the 80A plasma (oooh Baby!) to hack some legs into it - thinking 3 legs for stability on uneven ground.
The drum brakes have the hub holes in them, so might fabricobble some kind of ash grate / airflow doo-hickey.
If I can get around to it, I'll get some solid plate for a flat hotplate on top.
I'll probably weld some kind of crude hinge on it, and hack out a door using the plasma to get the fuel in.
Flue will come out the back.
Not sure if I'll MIG it or stick. I do have some very nice NiFe cast iron rods to play with...
By the time I'm done with it, it won't be very portable. Probably 80kg or so- 3 drums at about 25kg each plus other dead weight. But it will be a great project nevertheless!
Hopefully it turns out something like this:

Anyone else made one in this style? Most of the pics above are dead.
Show us your... Aarken-Faarken!
I have one that's similar Mitch,,, they work well [biggrin]
Mitch, that centre section looks like an old, 10:00, split rim.
I'll keep that in mind- the rim/brake relationship makes sense for the application. Although I don't think the donor of the brakes would give me wheels too. Hopefully it is a budget build!
The pic is just for reference though- hopefully the one I build turns out to be 1/10 as nice as that one.
Not brake drums but quite a flash Arken****en none the less. [bigsmile1]

These guys need an aarken-faarken medal!!! It's fed on waste oil, and is water cooled!
I've got a pile of brake drums at home too - big bastards that weigh nearly 40Kg each - I can hardly lift them. They are big enough that 2 will make a large enough combustion chamber and a third as the base. Will only need to cut some plate for the top and make up something for the ash pan I think.
Not sure when I'll get around to it though - I've got 6 drums all up, so I'll make 2 when I do it and flog one off to pay for the bits I have to buy. :)
