No, its definitely steel. Has been used quite a few times as a backyard fire pit.
A mate used a steel car wheel as a fire pit and it worked OK.

The main issue with the washing machine part is to make sure the bottom is flat and won't fall over. And you have to accept if it has been painted that there might be some fumes from burning paint the first time it is used.

Did most of what I wanted to my Arken ****en, and it works a treat, it pumps out the heat

    Cut the bottom off

Marked for the air holes and cut, at the moment these seem to work well.

I haven't yet welded the bottom to the top, but I will because when testing this out I noticed how well it catched the ash.

All there is to do is add some cooking attachments, I will do this over time, I will probably need to level the cut though, not as even as I would have liked, but still OK.

Where does one get an out of date bottle? I thought most people take them to the local servo's Gas 'n' Go and exchange them for an in-date full bottle.

Exactly right...recently took a pristine 9kg to a local "nameless" bar-b-Q retailer which had gas bottles galore on sale . ".it's out of date" I was told ...by 6 months. It costs more to have them tested than to purchase a new one. A chap at the local hardware "giant"... the dark green one, gave it a cursory inspection of date and condition and was very happy to accept it for a swap & go...

got home and the swap & go bottle was 5 yrs older than the one I handed in, and in ratty condition ...looked like someone had taken to it with a spray can to spruce it up....

Yep, same here - they have hundreds of them - both bottles and car gas tanks - they can be made into a good spit, but that'll be a new thread at some stage in the future....

Or, if you know someone that has an old caravan lying around in the backyard, a lot of the time they will have old out of date bottles still on them. A used caravan sales yard may even have a few waiting to be sent to the scrappy.

Or, buy a new one and wait 10 years...
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
