    02 Discovery Rear seats

Has anybody else experienced excessive movement in rear seats which causes irritating ratttle every time you go across uneven ground?

We do a fair amount of corrugation driving and wondered where this constant rattle was coming from, and upon checking realised both the rear seats were the culprits.

The play we get is about 10cm and our local service guy reckons it is normal

    regards

10cm is more than a little when you are talking about seats.

Is the movement on the rear upright backs or in the base.

I have a 97 Disco and the catch that holds the rear upright was loose when I got it and it just needed tightening.

You will have to remove the casing around the locking mechanism and you will see the bolts that hold it in place.
Make sure they hold it all as tightly as they can and you should be right.

But I wouldnt call it normal like it is. :?

The problem is the catch at the base of the seats does not latch securely enough when the seat is returned to the upright position.

This allows the seats to have excessive play and the movement at the top is the 10cm I mentioned.

I went into Barbagello's earlier today and checked out a number of 02 vehicles and none of them had as mutch play as mine.

The sales guy suggested I should wedge a piece of card in the latch to firm it up or get it fixed under warranty.

Hi harryw, I had an 02 disco and I never had any play in the rear seats at all. ( about the only thing that didn’t play up ).
I had the occasion to pull the rear seats apart to try and make them fit behind the drivers seat when the rear seat was folded forward. Couldn’t fix the my problem but one thing I do remember, there are some safety features built into the inside of the rear seats so if your Disco is still under warranty, I would strongly recommend you get LR to fix it for you.

Hi again harryw, just a correction, my disco was an 01 but the seats are the same and inside the rear seats are auto tesioners for the seat belt and having this rattle around can't be good. As I posted earlyer, see your LR dealer and have them sort it out.
