I don't often listen to the radio as I can't stand it when there is more than one announcer on (so I never listen to breakfast or drive time shows) - nor can I stand the advertising.

However, last week I happened have it on in the garage and I'm sure I heard an advert saying that if you own a business and don't have written safe work practices in place, you can be fined up to $600,000.

Have to agree with ya there.
Radio these days is utterly shocking. Disgusting in fact.

Nothing like forcing the hand of Business to comply with inane rules.......
I'm just wondering when it is all going to stop. It's all just gone too far.

When the general public (we) stop suing anyone for results of our own stupidity, then businesses (they) can stop covering themselves against possible ridiculous lawsuits!

As long as people sue, Insurance demands are rife.
Possibly if there was no insurance and the money dried up, then there is a chance that common sense may prevail. Who knows?

    yep

my business insurance costs trebled in the last few years

you can't go on many premises to ply your trade without it

i stepped away from employing people because the costs simply negate any benefit i derived and i was working my butt off for less than i was paying them..

with just me and the wife the insurance costs are still in excess of 10k a year so that is $200+ bucks a week gone before you even think about paying rent etc so you have doors you can open.

Next they will want to put a guard between the work piece and the tooling....

    That would make it safer...

Diversity? At GM-H? Why? Were they planning to start employing white English speaking Australians on the assembly line?

In my time peddling mining and construction equipment, our fitters would visit a mine to perform warranty services on various machines from skid steer loaders to dump trucks and 75 ton dozers. A common notation on the service sheet was " reversing alarm disconnected, repaired" or on one occasion "'reversing alarm smashed to pieces, new alarm ordered, workshop foreman advised". The guys working down the pit apparently got driven mad by the incessant loud beep-beep-beep of the reversing alarms. They took matters into their own hands.

An electrical contractor mate tells me that often he visits factories and workshops and does the annual test and tag of leads, etc. they commonly find that 15 & 20 amp 240 volt plugs have the pin ground down to fit 10 amp sockets. They replace with the correct plug and note their report that a damaged plug was replaced with the appropriate amperage plug. He says that they are often barely packed to go and employees are grinding the new plugs down.

With all of this crap expanding and becoming unbearable I do not for one minute regret becoming a recluse and a loner.
Being led from birth and being cradled, directed, kept safe, taught to comply without question and conform, is beyond me.
If someone phones or emails me, if I do not recognise the name or number I wont answer. PM's excepted.
I dont own a wireless or read newspapers.

This Forum is great, it keeps me in contact on a level that I can accept and look forward to.

If I had to go back into the workforce under the rules and crap of today, I would go mad.

    PS to my above post.
I will probably never go to meetings or days out where you guys get together. I do enjoy reading about it and seeing the pics and trip reports.

Having become a recluse over a good number of years now, I have lost most of my social skills. I dont have the gift of the gab and I struggle to maintain a conversation beyond more than a few minutes.
    I have become a boor.
Apart from THE BRO who I have known for 64 years and see 2 0r 3 times a year when the need arrises, my only contact is with counter staff or a Doc if I am feeling off.

I have some regrets about how it has ended but I wont change it.
At the end of the day I can still smile and thats what counts.

    Well anyway.
