Auspost tracking, just hopeless

My wife waited at home all day but there was no delivery. I went to their Track and Trace and it shows an attempted delivery with a card left. No one came near the place and there is no card. :mad:

I rang to complain but they weren't really interested. All I got was that the parcel will be delivered tomorrow. So that's 3 days we've had to wait around for this parcel. And companies wonder why I hate courier deliveries and would prefer shipment to my local PO where my PO Box is.

They had my mobile number, they could have called but they didn't.

I've seen how the local contractor does it, has a card ready to go, comes to the door, presses bell or knocks quieter than a mouse, then I get up from the desk with a window to the front where I see him already walking away, I slide the chain, unlock and open the door as he's putting the card in the letter box, I walk down the driveway (10m) where he is placing the parcel back in the van that was waiting with the door open.

I say g'day mate, he turns around STUNNED, and in a sarcastic tone, 'oh you were home, I rang the bell and waited for you'...yeh right.

I have jogged up the street to catch the guy when I was waiting for an important delivery (light bar :D ), took me nearly 30 seconds to get to the door after the bell and he was already driving off! They must be paid on attempted deliveries as well as successful ones, so the incentive is to do the old ring and run. :mad:

Times that by about a thousand, and if he waited for every slow moving person her never get finished before the next day, then start all over again, like painting the harbour bridge.

Many years back I did wine club deliveries , and got a small fee for the "not at home" situation. Frustrating when this happened as I was stuck with the parcel for 24 hours or more and responsible for its safety. Or the receiver would leave underage kids to sign. No id no drop off. As the weekly pay was determined by the number of successful deliveries waiting about at every drop was in effect a decrease in the hourly wage and more time stuck in traffic . Not a rewarding career choice. Now if I purchase anything requiring delivery I request that instructions to leave are prominent on the package.

I often by the Outback magazine and send it to the UK for my grandparents.
its $10 to buy and around $2o to send it!

They cant even get a registered letter right.

I while ago I sent some legal documents to a bad tenant and paid for registration and signature on delivery. Although it came out in the case the docs were delivered Auspost neglected to get a signature as proof of delivery.

Auspost did investigate and the best I got was an apology, even though their negligence could have cost me a favourable outcome in court

What is it with our postal service?

On the 18th I ordered several small items for my Defender from the UK. Total weight 2.5kg. Nothing to big.
The same day I ordered from a Melbourne outdoor retailer 2 items. Total weight 2.3kg.
The UK package was delivered via TNT. I tracked its progress easily, knowing where it was each day, seeing it had passed though several transit hubs. No problems there!

The Melbourne package is god knows where. Platatac have said it's been sent off (on the 19th) via Auspost. The tracking service just states 'pickup initiated'

But my real question is how is it possible that a 2.5 kg parcel can travel across the world, clear customs and be delivered quicker than a same weight parcel from a place I know for a fact is two days drive or two hours flight to Brisbane. Even given the pick up and delivery, surly it should be here now. Or at least I should know where it is via a reliable tracking service.
And Auspost wonders why they are struggling.

A bit of a ploy for you to actually use Niteroad I think as this is owned by Aussie Post I think.
Aussie Post needs a significant kick up the back side as while I generally find it reliable can be slow. I have had a book sent in overnight bag on Tuesday so should have been here today, I would expect maybe to see it Friday, but more likely Monday. Other items have taken up to 2 weeks from Adelaide or Sydney to Perth. Much quicker from US, UK, Hong Kong etc.
Then there is delivery, card in the letter box with no knock on the door (actually observed this working in the driveway one day, driver did not see me, did a u turn off our verge, saw me waving to them and kept going), parcels that should be signed for left on the door step or worse in the rain on the path, not even on the porch. The new contractor is a bit better.
No card in letter box at all and parcel dropped at local store that take undelivered parcels for our area. Only as I knew it was overdue, my wife asked at the store to be told it had been sitting there for 5 days.
