I've seen how the local contractor does it, has a card ready to go, comes to the door, presses bell or knocks quieter than a mouse, then I get up from the desk with a window to the front where I see him already walking away, I slide the chain, unlock and open the door as he's putting the card in the letter box, I walk down the driveway (10m) where he is placing the parcel back in the van that was waiting with the door open.
I say g'day mate, he turns around STUNNED, and in a sarcastic tone, 'oh you were home, I rang the bell and waited for you'...yeh right.
I have jogged up the street to catch the guy when I was waiting for an important delivery (light bar :D ), took me nearly 30 seconds to get to the door after the bell and he was already driving off! They must be paid on attempted deliveries as well as successful ones, so the incentive is to do the old ring and run. :mad:
