My last 2 tracked deliveries have updated (to 'delivered') within minutes of actual receipt. I agree it is more likely some of the contractors and some of the staff rather than the system itself.
Do get a dodgy contractor on a regular basis and the turnover is obviously high.
One backed into my daughter's car (was observed) and left without leaving any details, then tried to argue the cost when he was tracked down.
Another failed to deliver while we were home but somehow managed to leave a ticket in the letterbox, but as he also managed to leave the package at a different agency (from what was written on the ticket) it took several days to track down (by walking into the local agencies until we found it).
Another recently failed to deliver and left no 'you weren't home' ticket, but did at least tick the delivery attempt box so I got an email alert (one of the available options I believe) to let me know it was at the post office agency in the next suburb, not the one down the road where they normally leave them.

My local Auspost parcels contractor says the LPO refuses to accept parcels that the contractor can't deliver so he has to return the parcels to the Auspost distribution centre.
The express post parcel I handed to my LPO this morning at 11am still hasn't appeared in the Auspost tracking system so I don't know when their system updates.

Well, it's been over 24 hours and my parcel still isn't showing up in the Auspost tracking system. I asked at the PO this morning and he's not sure if he scanned it in. Gaaahhhh!!! I don't want to lose it as it has the CoaguChek in it.

Hi Rob you should have waited until he scanned it and you can ask for a receipt for it. If it has not shown up then they never scanned it in. The problem there is, if it is not scanned in as received and it goes missing Aust post will say that they never received it. It wont show up until it get to the suburb where it is going. Keep checking the web site it will now only show up when it gets to the delivery area..( Heather)

Yes, that was a mistake on my part, Heather, but, in theory, it should be scanned at each waypoint, e.g., mail centre, etc.
-
Hi you would think so,we have had only about 1/4 of our items scanned at the Sunshine DC center, that's where they go after the post office here. I suppose if they do their job that's what should happen. Hope it turns up at the address.:):)

Maybe the tracking isn't hopeless.
I've been watching a parcel I have coming from Bairnsdale. It travelled to the processing centre at Sunshine West. Seems reasonable.
Then, it was sent to St Kilda. Why? That question was probably asked at St Kilda too as it was sent back to Sunshine West.
I wonder where it will be sent to next?

My Express Post parcel arrived in Busselton on 29th July and still hasn't been delivered to the buyer. The buyer wants his $325 back and has lodged a non-delivery claim with eBay so my account has had the money taken back.
The problem is that his daughter put a redirection on his mail whilst he was in hospital for a few days. Where the parcel is now is anyone's guess. It's still shown in transit at Busselton.
I'm in London so I can't do much.
That's over $1000 worth of my goods lost by Auspost in the past few months.

new coil for my gold detector[dinner plate size with a wire attached] from Melbourne to Darwin 8 days, 4 shocks from England 4 days. Auspost tracking says, Sent,in transit, delivered.Australian busineses should be kicking up about this.
