There was a show called "Coltrane's Planes and Automobiles" a while back, and Robbie Coltrane compared the appeal of the sound of a jet with the sound of a piston-engined aircraft. He sat in a chair with some judge's placards. A jet flew over and he scored it very low; then a Spit went past and he gave it a "10".

I seems from the previous 8 pages that the requirements for an audibly pleasing engine are a throaty bass bark burbling from a reasonably large pipe. While that's no doubt nice, my vote for audibly pleasing goes to the Suzuki LJ50, it screams, and it screams FUN.
