Yes but it is always good to make people aware of the capabilities.

I agree with all the comments about lack of reaction from the wider world for so long.
We need to accept that this sort of thing will happen more often and that we need to respond quickly as a world to minimize the impact.

Would not surprise me that the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases all ready have a vaccine for this, along with many others.

They were about to start longer human drug trials, but the funding was stopped. Currently theres no viable market for such a drug. Might change over time.

I read it. What should I be making of it?

...But while Ebola remains a genuine concern in West Africa, if it ever did make it to Europe or North America the chances of it spreading far are remote.

This is for two important reasons: first our disease surveillance is more stringent, and second Ebola kills or immobilises its host before they have much of a chance to spread it.

In reality, a bigger concern far closer to home is that some diseases which we once vanquished, like measles, rubella and pertussis, are now making a comeback.

Thanks to an insidious complacency we have seen significant drops in vaccination rates in many parts of the western world, to the extent that diseases are not only coming back but to levels where we are actually exporting them to poorer countries.

I digested it. Other than it's emotive title the entire article down plays the threat of ebola in comparison to other diseases endemic in Africa.

So what is your point about cherry picking?

At the present moment Ebola is the focus. Are you saying it should not be? Bob

No. I'm asking you why you say I cherry picked a passage in an article which down plays the threat of ebola in comparison to other diseases endemic in Africa like dengue, rotavirus and the like.

Much like I pointed out previously, with malaria, TB and the like.
