Need a camping spot 2-3 hrs from Sydney

    Hi Guys,

We just bought a camper and want an easy spot to test it out within 2-3 hours of Sydney where we havent been before.

I know most spots in the blue mountains, watagans, south coast etc.

Was thinking up near Barington tops. Any good ideas for the October long weekend. I prefer camping away from other people. Happy to go offroad but nothing major as its the frist trip with the camper.

This trip is mainly to iron out any kinks before a 3 week trip to Fraser.
Towing offroad trailer with modifed NT pajero,

Riverwood Downs is great but not much of a challenge off road wise.
It will test your set up however as they don't have power or water on most sites.
Great take away food and river though.
    Highly recommended.

I agree. Depending on how much trailer camping you have done, first trip in the back yard, second within a hour from home and then further a field. Wombeyan Caves, Kiama, Mt Wilson. Have fun!

Thanks, I've done plenty of camping around Australia so really don't need that much of a practice run.

    We just want somewhere new

Riverwood downs looks nice but expensive at 56 a night for camping.

Might try the Nat parks sites around there

You can't go past Bendethra on the South Coast, some of the best camping in Australia, over 5 klms of Duea river frontage, so always private camping, need 4wd to get in to Bendethra, keeps out the riff raff LOL.
Has 3 drop toilets throughout park and many grassy camp spots, good 4wdriving, river , walks and Caves to explore and if you want company and someone to show you around, either me or Allan (VNX-205), or both could do that and show you this great area, contact me if you wish, Regards Frank.

There are also some great primitive camping areas right on the beaches at Moruya North Head, Congo camp area, Mystery Bay, etc:
Contact Eurobodalla Shire Council web-site for info on these top spots, some members here have enjoyed these council camp sites, they maybe able to help out with info if they read this. These beach camp sites are so good that a lot of Locals camp there over the Christmas and school holidays.
When you have been to Bendethra have you had the chance to explore the many fire trails in the area, found a new spot that I hadn't seen before after 10 years of exploring round here, see Allan's write up in Trip Reports under "Day and night trip through Duea", always something new to find, Regards Frank.
