    TOUGH DECISION'

After Pip having his well overdue clip the other days (after many cancelations due to lockdowns ) a couple days later I noticed a large lump on the side of one of his front feet. The groomers had not mentioned it & I didn't notice it either. He was due to have a couple of cancers taken off his ear tomorrow but on finding the one on his foot I had him to the Vet yesterday & yes it is also cancer & needs to also be removed. After speaking to the Vet yesterday he tells me they will need to remove 1/2 to 3/4 of his ear & half his foot. He also needs some dental work to remove some teeth. Our daughter who is a Vet Nurse tells me it is time because his quality of life is no longer there because Pip is blind & deaf has had arthurites for at least 10 years now & now these cancers that they don't know if they will come back or spread to other organs, I know he has a small lump on his back & a larger on on his tail & one on the the knee joint on the other leg. It is a hard decision , Vet tells me his hart is good but dogs seam to be able to hide pain .
Only we can make the decision but it is a hard decision to make with your pet who has been a member of the family for 16 years .

Damn - tough decision mate - have been there myself as I'm sure others here have. Always hard to know when it's best to call it in situations like this.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Sympathetic thoughts, a decision all of us detest and procrastinate over.

I went through this recently and followed our vet's advice of 'It's Time'. In hindsight, the correct decision.

My sympathy to you and Pip.

Thanks' for your thoughts. My daughter ( who now teachers Vet Nursing through one of the colleges) has spoken to the vet this morning & asked that defer the surgery & between them have decided to prescribe him some pain relief to give us time to decide & come to terms with what is best for Pip. Our daughter has also offered to take him to the Vets & sit with him if we decide to go down that track, I know I could never do that , it is even extremely hard just writing this post. I know it is what we should do bit can't help to think if he has the OP's he may get a couple more of years.

Mate... It's so hard to do but you wouldn't wish two more yours of pain on poor Pip I'm sure. I really do feel for you. Hope you all come through this trial OK.
    Cheers, Billy.

Our daughter is also a vet and has advised us a couple of times when it was 'time' - they seem to know. Doesn't make it any easier but in retrospect it was always the right decision.
Sympathetic thoughts for you but, for Pip's sake, don't procrastinate too long.

Thanks for all your thoughts , we will be doing what is best for Pip but not until after the weekend , his medication will take away any pain he is in & will give us & our family some time with him . Our eldest grand son is the same age as Pip & has grown up with him so he wants to see Pip over the weekend .
Pip has always been a peoples dog , he never much cared for other dogs , when ever our daughters came over with there dogs he would go & hide in his hole under the hedge until after they had gone , when we take him to the dog park he would go to the far corner with his ball & not socialise with the other dogs but he is different with people he would be there under every ones feet. Where I take him for his bath & clip everyone there knows Pip , when I would go to pick him up nobody recognized me & would ask who I had come for & when I said Pip the reply is always the same , "O" Pip , love that dog.
He will be sadly missed , not only by us & our family but by everyone that have met him.
Once again for your thoughts they have helped us with knowing it is the rite decision .
