DSCN4358.jpg This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago just as the sun was coming up & he was still asleep.

On Wednesday night out Pip ( Pipkin) was not well & could hardly walk & did not eat his dinner. He is 14 year old Cocker , he is blind , can't tell were sounds are coming from ,has lost most of his sense of smell & has bad arthritis . Next morning he had not improved so we mad an appointment with the Vet , about 1/2 hr before going he had improved a little. At the Vets he had a good check over & urine test . The Vet asked us to leave him for a couple of hours while they did a blood test , when they rang the results were not good , dehydrated, very high white blood cells & organs shutting down. The Vet said he had eaten something toxin or had Cancer suggested we do an X ray . At the end of the conversation she said Pip has just started to eat . She called us about 3hr later to tell us no cancer was found & he was eating so much they had to take the food off him (just like a normal Cocker) They have put him on a drip overnight & the Vet was going in a couple of times through the night to check on him. So far this is good news we had made the decision that if he did have cancer we did not want him to suffer , so now have to wait for the call today to see how he is going , & they are going to do another blood test this morning & other tests. Our youngest daughter is a Vet Nurse who now teaches Vet nursing & she has been helping us with all our decisions.

They can break your heart when they are sick and/or get older with age related afflictions. Good luck to you and Pip.

Our 1st dog a Dachshund was 18 when we had to part with her, she was a vegetarian for about the last 5years of her life , the 2nd another was only 1 1/2 years when she succumbed to spinal damage that could be traced back to breading , the lady we got her from stopped breading when we told her , said she knew her dogs but could no longer guarantee the dogs she was breading from. Then our 3rd a King Charles had an an enlarged heart at the age of 2years & all her organs started shutting down. Then we got Pip our 1st male dog & yes he has had a good innings . The vet tells us he should have another couple of years , we hope so, he can be a pain some times but not having him here we do miss him laying out side the back doors. Well only a couple of more hours & he will be home.

We had a Dobermann first, had a couple of litters of pure bred pups, real fun for the kids in those days.SHe lasted until she was 14.
Loved everyone, even strangers, wouldn't even bark at them.
    Hopeless watchdog.But clever.
Next SWMBO brought a Sharpei home.He was a wonderfull companion, but definitely wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
Hated strangers, and a great watchdog.Skin cancer got him at 10.

The one we have now is a Springer Spaniel, the best of all of them. She is getting on as well,10 this year, lots of grey hairs around her eyes.
One litter of pups, cancer of the mammary glands, luckily we got that early, but it did cost us an arm, leg and a kidney each to fix her,but worth it.
Fantastic companion, great alert watchdog, and a wonderful temperament, very obedient.Very clean as well.Sorts out the bush turkeys.
Only downside is they are born hunters,so having chooks, ducks, quail or anything like that is not possible.

Well Pip is home still not 100% will be on medication twice a day for the next week. I am hoping he will sleep in the laundry tonight , he has never been a inside dog except when there is a thunder storm then he wants to go out for a pee at 2 in the morning, then when he comes back keeps me a wake the rest of the night chewing his feet. O the fun of having a dog. but would not be with out him.
