Bob, it really is scary what has gone on in previous years, and has been covered up or swept under the carpet for years.

All the abuse that has come to light in recent times is truly staggering, from childrens' homes, churches, celebrities, and now MPs. And all of those were people we held uppermost in society.

Sad, truly sad, to think of all of those victims' lives ruined.

Maybe slightly off topic,but the recent case involving Scott Volkers is rather disturbing considering that swimming Australia were aware of the charges he was involved in.

Another case of many lives ruined with **** all done by our pathetic justice system.

Sex scandals are the norm for British Conservative Party politicians. Little boys, gays, girls, goats, old Uncle Tom Cobley and all. Might have to do with the boarding schools they attended, fags, floggings, choir masters.

If I remember right, Scott Volkers was up on charges quite some time ago. Before it went to court, the charges were dropped.

I remember hearing a story some years ago on Background Briefing. It was about a male teacher who was falsely accused of, well, lets call it inappropriate behavior, by a couple of his students to get at him. Just before the court case, the two girls admitted they were lying, so the court case never went ahead. As there were accusations (even though they were false) on the teachers record, he was never allowed to teach again. His career was in tatters.

Remember, accusations are not necessarily guilt.

When I was a young teenager in the early 70s I was obsessed with fishing, there wasn't a spare day that I was not casting a line here or there, a few of my mates had the same passion. We didn't know what a pedo was but we seemed to have been exposed to them often. We just called them poofs and tried to avoid them, and not give in to their advances. We always seemed to have strange men try to befriend us. Advances were made and rejected. We never spoke to any adults about it and just kept an eye out, street smart.
I joined a angling club with my best friend at the time. We attended every meeting catching the bus to the clubrooms. We enjoyed the time learning new things. It was on our first club outing when we had a weekend at the Goulbourn river at Thornton, one of the older club members offered us a lift as we were too young to hold a drivers licence.
He drove us there and it was a great weekend. On the first evening during darkness the club president asked me and my mate to come along for the initiation ceremony that all new club members had to endure.
we were told to keep it quiet. Something didn't seem right, to be initiciated we were out in the dark in the scrub and told to strip to our underwear. We didn't feel comfortable so didn't go ahead with the requests. Some thing in our mind said this doesn't seem normal. I mentioned the initiation process to the member we got a lift from and he told us there was no initiation to belong to this club. My friend and I never went back to the club again after that trip. We never discussed it further. Again the president must have been a "poofter". A pedo was not something that was taught to us, we were warned to look out for dirty old men. Talking to other kids we knew revealed that a lot of them had experiences where men would approach them.
It wasn't until 40 years later I was talking to a member of the said fishing club and mentioned the presidents name and was told he died and was a pedo. There probably is many other instances from that time period were kids had been prayed upon and when I had kids of my own, I became over protective of them going out. I was not harmed during my childhood as me and my friends were a step ahead of them. How many others however were molested .That was a time before internet was invented and pedos hunted openly and not hidden behind a computer. It is something that makes me really sick in the stomach that we have creatures out there preying on innocence.
