    This is a fun one...

Ring her randomly and say something along the lines of...

"Just ate a Ham and Cheese toasted sandwich... Yummmmm" and then hang up..

Repeat for different items through out the day...

i think the nation can be very anti phone/technology. but to have the phone out at a funeral is so not on. as for taking a photo at dinner, i dont see an issue with that, but if she really wanted to post to fb, do it afterwards LOL. you could always do the put phones in the middle of the table, then first to reach for it to text/fb/whatever pays the bill

the dress code thing i do not always think is a bad thing. i know a lot of people request that in the event of their funerals, attire can be this, that or the other. i dress neatly at funerals. but have been to them where casual dress code in persons favourite colour was requested, or beach wear and flip flops were the requested clothing. So it may be that some of these people are just being lazy and not making the effort, but it also could be part of some pact/request made with the person who has passed on. tradition is not always followed in the modern world. however though, basic rules should still apply and phones should be turned off during the service!!!!!!! only time i feel a phone should be on is if someone overseas/interstate is attending the funeral through a video call.

Though they're illegal to use here, I've been seriously tempted to have one of these with me in the car and on the bike.

When I'm out for a meal with my wife, we play "spot the boring couple". You must have seen them, both of them, sat opposite sides of the table, both on a phone and not talking to each other.

yes, saw a couple just like that out for a dinner in a (very lively) pub in Newcastle one night last week. Band playing in the front of the pub, good food, lots of people watching and conversation opportunities, and the couple at the next table just stroking their phones and not paying any attention to one another. Great future there methinks?

you and your wife must lead exciting lives if you find the need to talk about others while out supposedly enjoying each others company....

Clearly I take my hat off to you and your much more exciting and thrilling life. My wife and I are breathtakingly dull, and generally prefer to be seen in public wearing matching sweaters, and our idea of a good time is a tour of exhibitions related to "train timetables of 1932" or "needlepoint and quilting". Feel free to not invite us to your next dinner party.
