1958 landy

Met an interesting guy on saturday. As I was leaving work at 11:30 am, thinking how I'm ****ed off at having to miss the bbq, I spotted a little red short wheel base series 2 in the carpark.
I went over to have a chat to the guy as he was loading some doors into the back.
He bought this thing for $3500, said he's spent about another $7000 on it getting it going properly, suspension, brakes, a few body bits, etc.
Anyway the little red beast still has the original petrol(?) motor in it, only done 36 000 miles :!:
Can you believe it :!: It was the fire tender at the royal easter show, so never got driven.
I directed him to this site but he doesn't seem to have turned up as yet.

1958, is that a series 2 or series 1 ????

Either way, it would be a fascinating vehicle !!

It's a series 2. I didn't get any pics, but, the oportunity is there to catch up with the guy. He knows one of the bosses. The thing that I can't get over is the original 36 000 miles :!:

The chap you met may have had contact with me some time ago, he got my email address from the remlr site he told me approx 2 years ago (at least) he had opportunity to buy a Series 2 fire tender that was used at the old sydney showground, I gave him some information then never heard from him again. If it's the same fellow it will be a Series 2, never mind the 36,000 miles I have one 1963 S2A GS 88" with 2,560 miles genuine and one owner who has put 2,516.3 miles on the clock, when I bought it as a restoration project it had 3.7 miles on the odometer 8O 8O , the ID tags show it had 40 miles on the clock when accepted by Eastern Comm speedo wound back to it then did 3.7 miles in military service and had either a malfuntion with parachute landing or a slinging accident it was retrieved and repaired placed in storage and sold off in 1969, bought by a chap in Newcastle who did nothing to it at all, he sold it to a mate of mine in 1994, I bought it from him in 1999 for $350.00, I had it 2 days and had it running and the rest is history, it is a real GEM to drive and looks as good as it goes, also my Gunbuggy has only 36,000 miles on it also (genuine from the logbooks that came with the sale) cheers Dennis
