Thanks John. I've read stores in the forum about LRs stranded in Broome. Am thinking of visiting next year, but anxiety about servicing is a bit offputing.

I hope you're not recommending to people a certain mechanic on Guy st. After having my D1 in the Kimberley for over 6 years, the only time it has been to a mechanic was to there, and to say I was not happy is an understatement

There is only one person who we use, other than ourselves and that is Nick at Auto Excellence, Pembroke Street, just off Clementson Street where I manage Kimberley Truss. We have a variety of parts sources we use up here, but Nick is great, always helpfull, doesn't mind any make of car. I get my service parts from Whyatts in Geraldton down south or as kits from the UK.
Anyone heading up here, let me know so we know when you're expected. Whyatts ate also good if you need help along the way. However I can strongly recommend platinum RACWA membership. 200km's of free towing. This is very hand up here.

Hi Master in Derby, you also have a great guy at the Derby Equipment hire - we call him Chewey, locals call him Jessie. He is also pretty good if you need it looked at in Derby. If he has any questions he can always call me here. But no one in Guy Street should ever be used. And there is more than one!

			Gromit needs Help!

Hi John your post is very Timely.
Gromit , me and the miss us have limped into Derby tonight in pretty poor shape after setting out from Canberra on 5th July. We did Cape York right to the tip including Gunshot creek and Nolan's Brook on the old Telegraph track. We then crossed the Savanah way via Normanton and have just completed the Gibb River Road. Poor old Gromit is hanging in there but is bleeding badly from a shot front crankshaft oil seal ( spare part 90516028urgently needed). He only has three brakes as one of the rears is crimped off due to a fractured pipe.. We've just shredded our second spare but I have a solution for that problem. And now something has let go with the steering the last100k to Derby were a nightmare trying to hold a straight course. The trouble is I can't see anything wrong but he wanders excessively to camber changes or ridges along the road and it is very easy to over correct. If you can suggest a source for the seal and someone with some brake pipe and a flaring tool and someone who can suggest what's wrong with the steering I will be eternally grateful. . Ill try calling you tomorrow. Cheers Gromit
