(Why do spelling errors leap out of the page at me? It's a cross I have to bear).

Dunno, Davo.

I'm on the rangie.com list, the RRO list, the rangerovers.net forum, the MotorcarsLtd RR forum (all international lists with a predominantly American membership), the AU-LRO list (not this list), and the Hillman list and none exhibit these problems. Neither do the Land Rover and the Peugeot newsgroups.

However, the Australian Range Rover and Discovery Forum has a fair share of them, as does the Australian Ford Probe forum, the Australian 4WD Monthly Forum, the Overlander forum, and the Two Wheels forum (all of which I'm on). (I've given up the aus.motorcycles newsgroup, I don't have enough time for that, too.

Gawd! What have I done with my life!?

All the best

They find real english rather amusing and correct my spelling with a whole
lot of 'Z's'. I reckon Columbus dropped his dictionary overboard on the way over...

<grin> You're right when it comes to the computer fora. I sometimes have trouble understanding what they are saying, too. Thinking about it, there are occasionally people on the LR/RR lists I mentioned earlier whose command of the English language is abysmal - bad enough that it sometimes difficult to understand what they are saying. At first I thought that they must have been people whose first language is not English - but they aren't. Jeez, those blokes on the lists who are from non-English speaking backgrounds are often better than I at English - and far better at English than I am with their language.

The bloke who runs the http://rangerovers.net site, john Brabyn, is a Kiwi who lives in the USA. He has problems with interspersing "z" (US practice) and "s" (NZ/Aus practice).

I occasionally have a dig at blokes on this list about spelling but I try to keep it light-hearted. Heck, I consider you blokes to be almost family and where would we be if we couldn't rubbish our family? Much better than rubbishing people we don't know. Of course, we all know that all the d**kheads are are on the 4WD Monthly and Overlander lists. Not here.

Unfortunately, it is difficult (for me) to convey a jocular tone of voice in the written word. ops:

BTW, Columbus, who was an Italian (Genoan) sailing for the Spanish actually never reached what we now call America. He reached the Bahamas and Cuba. By his third voyage he'd reached Jamaica. It is believed that the continent of North America was later found by and named after Amerigo Vespucci - another Italian (Florentine) sailing for the Spanish.

All the best

Ron

I joined a ford escort forum the other night (Australian), the majority of the active members seem to be late teens early twenties and their english and their ability to string sentences together is shocking. The sentences are some times unreadable. At least on here, even with the spelling mistakes, you can still read and understand the sentences. Matt

2. I visited Cristobel Colon's grave (yep, that's his real name). It's in a bloody big cathedral in Seville, Spain. So there. (Useless fact #77376)
