<grin>

    There are too many corrections required in the above so I won't even attempt it.

    Reading simple things is easy on this forum!

    Now if you look at http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/index.p...y;threadid=6490 you'll see a prime example of a post that is almost impossible to understand without reading it several times. The writer has no idea of how to write (let alone spell).

    Read. Read. Read. And when you find a word you don't know, look it up in a dictionary. If necessary use an on-line dictionary that will offer suggestions in case you can't spell the word.

    You won't taught how to spell at school - most teachers don't seem to be able to spell either - at least those I've come in contact with. I used to edit the Land Rover Owner's Club LROC News. The worst stuff came from teachers.

    Make sure that Windows uses the Macquarie Dictionary - set the default language to English (Australian).

    I agree with the system used by some teachers, "drop everything and read" where the kids can read almost anything, car magazines, etc. The idea is to get them to read. But the system lets kids down when teachers don't correct their work "because we don't want to stifle their creativity".

    Creativity won't get many kids a job. It will some in some fields but not for a lot of them.

    English changes, spelling changes. I remember being amused by articles written in Model Engineer magazine some years back where an older contributor used the archaic form of spelling the word "show" - he wrote it as "shew" in all his articles.

    English was not my best subject at school - I still don't know much about the formal side of the subject. But I learned a lot from a manager I had in OTC about 30 years ago. He was a Pole who really was even more pedantic than me. All telexes and reports had to be vetted by him before they could be sent. Corrections were the order of the day but I did get the hang of stringing words together in technical reports.

    Funnily enough, I've read some reports and I've thought, "Jeez, that's well written, I wonder who wrote that?" I've got to the end and found it was one of mine from years earlier. I should have checked first! ops:

    Crown Land and Land Taxes

    I think ive got it right but someone will probably know.....

    I think in some areas of state forest or crown land you can simply pick cetrtain old claims and pay the land tax and live on them, if there are a few of you blokes might be worthwhile looking for some of these places, they are left over from many years ago, usually mining or farming claims where the land holders have died and left the land,

    or something like that anyway

    i know there is a couple of these in the Stanley State Forest Victoria.
