There is that old chestnut quote that is often dragged out when gun control is mentioned:
'Guns don't kill people. People kill people'.
So...
A man is dead...
I'm pretty sure an out of control gun killed him.
But maybe it should be:
'Guns don't kill people. Stupidity kills people'.

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
When I saw this clip on the tv. my thoughts were what is a 9 year old girl doing on a shooting range ? For me this was irresponsible , and as a result a life is lost . The sad thing is the law probably won't change , and It will happen again !!.. Jim..
If you want to get in an argument in the USA make comment on gun ownership and "the right to bear arms". Even yanks who don't own a gun and never will, do staunchly defend this "right". A very high percentage of Americans have a handgun at home for "protection". In the deer hunting states just about every house has an arsenal of heavy rifles and shotguns. In deer season the conversation in bars starts with "got your deer yet?" They can't comprehend our system of licensing and control. In Texas you can openly carry a handgun, no permit needed. In Montana handguns are in just about every car but I don't know about whether permits are needed or they can be openly carried.

Some countries let younger kids carry bigger machine guns than that, and not on a range, into combat...
But aside from that, the range officer/instructor was standing in the wrong spot and should have known the directional forces on the weapon from firing. He also shouldn't have released control to the girl in auto.
But yes it does seem odd in comparison to our 'regulated' society, but we aren't at war with nearly every other country... yet
I did fire the 9mm SMG in the reserves, similar barrel trajectory, but easier to control.
Every year there is an award given to stupidity, they are called the Darwin Awards, perhaps you have come across them before.
With the gun mentality of the septics, it is a wonder there hasn't been a collective win the award.
"Presented to the ENTIRE population of the United States of America"
in recognition of stupidity!
The right to bear arms was granted at a time when they were probably all single shots, let them all bear single shot rifles, nothing has been taken away but progress.
It also seems there are a number of mil or ex-mil people around here who understand the not so delightful aspect of being on the two way range, I don't want to go back to that!
Cheers
Mike
