Thread: Colorado 4x4 Full Throttle

I saw that on FB when it first occurred.
Enter the luddite brigade condemning fly by wire, which is supposedly what failed and caused the accident.
Of course, easy for us to say 'should have dipped the clutch/knocked it into neutral or top gear to stall it out', but apparently he was a total novice, and in a situation like that you've not got a lot of time.
Good to see the bloke was okay.

Be very interesting to see if GM come to the party on this. No doubt they'll want to examine the vehicle to establish in in fact it was a fault with the FBW system. These systems have proved extremely reliable over many years now both in the Aero and auto scene.

All that said, there are many historical instances of throttle cables sticking etc. Accidents can and do happen.

He is a very lucky boy to walk away. It does say something for the integrity of a monocoque body.

Novice 4wdriver, no brake lights. Maybe he just panicked and pinned the throttle pedal to the floor. Then they came up with a convenient excuse.

Un likely to be the fly by wire I recon stupid things like floor mats ect have been know to catch on throttle pedals causeing this sort of thing

Just watched it again after reading your post and your spot on with the no brake lights which is very strange.Panic or not, hitting the brakes would have to be a natural reaction.

Looking at the mods made to the car tyres,snorkel,bullbar,etc maybe this bloke should have invested in a 4WD course to learn how to use the car properly first.

He was lucky, if you look at the trail he made, he missed every tree. Something was looking after him. Vw/Audi have both had issues with their fly by wire and gearboxes, along with the big toymota camry recall in the USA for floor mats jamming accelerators.
I thought the Colorado/imax had a chassis not monocoque design?

Toyota didn't have problems with the floor mats jamming the accelerators,I attended a job involving a 200 series that went out off control and it wasn't fitted with floor mats,and the brakes were on fire when we arrived. Pat
