I agree with some of the comments, BUT the owners should be fined/jailed etc for being irresponsible pet owners, stupid parents buying cuddly animals from pet shops or animals being gifted should be outlawed or come under very strict controls/guidelines, just like we are controlled re our firearms and shooting activities.:(:(
I'm also a shooter and have owned all types of firearms (including a heavy barreled 22.250 which was capable of bringing down small game at exceptional distances) over the past 55 years, I have also shot many a feral cat & dog as well as other feral pests, but our pets are well controlled all of the time. Our much loved cat 'Harriet' lives in the house, but she has the best of both worlds, here is she is this morning just waiting for the Sun to move through it's arc so she can lay in the sunshine

that's her outside world, she is also de-sexed like all other pets that we have, the only pets not de-sexed here are our Bantams:).
I do agree and support eradication programs started by the SSAA I'm a member of more than 25 years, cheers Dennis:angel:
ps she is still a hunter, gawd help any lizards that are silly enough to get onto the bricks inside the enclosure,,. we built the enclosure it took approx. a day and cost around $200.00 a lot cheaper than the commercially available types.

Cats also make good hats, shoes (moccasins) and even patchwork coats! We (the family and I) made up some interesting lyrics sung to the tune of the Postman Pat theme....I'll post them up at some point :)


Also craybait is a good end use for them, in fact there are many ways to utilise the overabundance of the feral scourge. Time we started down that rd as IMO they do more damage than foxes and the like.

I live literary on the fringe of society, and there is a huge influx of Cats moving through my property as I live between a Road and a River.

So being too close to other properties to safely fire my .22 Magnum, what do I do?
Traps don't work that well here as the only Cats that end up in it are pets like our Monty the old Burmese that the MIL left behind when she moved to another camp, where she doesn't need to burn the water to have a cuppa of tea.

I feed them!!! and they stay around.
The local Farmers love this as they know where they can get some Cats from that they can rely on to stay in their sheds.

Cats are territorial, this keeping of a few Cats at my place must be working as I don't have the Mouse, Rat, Rabbit, Sparrow, Starling and Blackbird population that once resided here. It's obvious when I go up the road to a neighbors place that they haven't a Cat, as the stretch of Mice is strong.

I still have Plovers ( Lapwings ), Kookaburras, Crows ( Ravens ), in the paddock, Finches in the roof of the house, Swallows under the eves, Blue Tongue Lizards in the garden, Robins and Willie Wagtails around here as well.

If we could find a way of completely getting rid of those introduced vermin, I will gladly shoot the last Cat in Tasmania.

I'm been looking at the interpretation of "crossbow" in the act and how it would effect the legality of crossbow slingshots:

It appears that it could be argued that a shot/ball-stooting crossbow-type device should be classified as a "dangerous article" rather than a crossbow as, according to the act, it is not designed to shoot bolts or arrows. Also, note that the arrow or bolt be propelled by a bow. No mention is made of rubber or spring-powered devices.

So, there may be legal opportunity to explore rubber-powered launchers of balls, arrows, bolts etc as long as they are not used in public places.

...and as long as it is a quick, clean kill.

Go out at night with a spotlight and you might see a few. Part of the problem is they are so so good at surviving.

Honestly, I have no issue with individual cats per se, but cats on a whole are too much of a problem. I would never be cruel to one (or any other animal for that matter),

Imagine if Australia had no cats. You reckon they would be allowed to be imported and kept as pets in domestic homes? Not a chance, given the obvious risk to the natural fauna. In a similar vein, rabbits are illegal to have as pets in Queensland, a move I thoroughly applaud.

Unfortunately, when it comes to cats, the majority spoil it for the minority.
