I got 105000km out of a set of BFG Muds in all conditions, including the daily commute to work along the F3. And then sold them as they were still legal.

Rotate every 5000km and vary your air preasures and tyres will last.

I wouldn't recommend BFG AT KOs. The bead protector may protect the bead but it also lets debris accumulate between the rim and tyre. As a result, I couldn't let them below 25psi on my Pajero. In addition, I found the tyre prone to having chunks of tread ripped out of it. Not recommended.

I do however recommend Silvertones and Kelly tyres. Had a good run of both.

Ok fun aside for a minute, I need help in choosing the right set of tyre's for the RANGIE.:?

you need the new bridgestone "floatie" with inflatable donuts that help float to the surface in an upright position:P
Another comedian, this place if full of them.

I am a biased dunlop man, so good years would be my choice, seeing as they rated better in 4wd Monthly's tyre test than the dunlop grandtrek's. matt
There's always one in a crowd isn't there :|
thanks INc

Matt I prefer dunlop over goodyear aqua gliders anyday( and before the rest of you start with the sarcasim, yes the Aqua gliders would have been useful on that fateful day in december)

So far Matt you have given me 4 options which is pretty much what the tyre monkey did today :? :? :?
Hi Jason, goodyears are made in the same factory, hence my preference of Goodyear over BFG, there is no real reason except brand loyalty, i have had an xcellent run out of every dunlop tyre i have ever bought, and for two reasons i cant get the dunlop A/T, 1 they dont come in the size i want, 2 if they did i cant afford them.

Henry- sorry mate the comparo was muddies, but hear are the results anyhow-

1) BFGoodrich Mud Terrain- $265
2) Cooper Discoverer Radial STT- $258
3) Goodyear Wrangler MT/R- $230
4) Dunlop Grandtrek M/T- $270
5) Pro Comp M/T- $260
6) Sumitomo Serengeti- $169
7) Pro Comp X-Terrain- $285
8) Mickey Thompson Rad Claw- $258
9) Yokohama Geolander M/T- $265
10) Khumo M/T- $185
11) Simex Centipede M/T- $179
12) Silverstone SQ 773- $200
13) Motorway Monoform- $115- these are remoulds.
14) Hankook Dynamic M/T- $198

All these tyres are based on sizes for 16in rims, with an overall diameter of no more than 31inches. Hope this helps. Matt

Anyone who has any info would be an advantage. Could also save me heaps as not to many tyre joints let you test drive a set before you buy them :?
First thing you need to do is be honest about the amount of time you spend off road. Full muddies look great, but cost $$. Don't handle wet roads at all and wear faster than the wifes Credit card.
Highway biased tyres don't look as good as the horny lug type tyres and won't be any good off road.
When you consider all things and want to have some good looking tyres on your rig, and unless you can afford 2 sets on different rims The AT type tyres usually win hands down.
Cooper tyres have just realeased an AT/R tyre that has a tread pattern between the old AT and the ST. And is good for around 90 000km.
Call your local Tyrepower store on 13 21 91 for more info (plug plug )
Don't be talked into one brand over another based on hearsay stories. All the major brands carry good tyres, and if used incorrectly will fail. The idiot who has the failure will never say "I ran them at 10psi or 90psi" Only bag the brand as being useless. Make some calls, listen to the advice. Pay a bit extra for a paticular brand if it suits your purpose, and fulfills the pose value. $40 - $100 extra now is nothing in 12 months time
Cheers Tyrepower

I might be wrong but i think tyrepower knows a bit about tyres. 8O

Seriously though Jason, two sets of tyres is better but not many people can afford it. I was able to afford it by getting some rims on ebay and a cheap set of retreads for playing in the mud, that way i wont cry to much when is shread one, they way i see it is that they will perish on the floor of the shed before i wear a good set out, and if all you want to do is cane them in the bush i didnt want to kill a $300 tyre when is could kill 3 retreads for the same price. Jason,
I''m on my second set of BFG A/Ts, the second set being the KO sidewalls and I've found no reason to complain, get about 80000Ks each set which is 65/35 blacktop / tracks, I'll be getting a third set sometime this year. They are SWMBO travel companions during the week and the trackwork can be anything from gravel to rocks. As mentioned above we are fortunate to have a second set of dedicated mud tyres for the times when A/Ts would not suit.
Tyrepower hits it on the head, determine what your needs are have a good look around decide on a tyre then hassle for prices.
