Yeah, but it could be argued they shouldn't have been there, and IS killed them to warn others to stay away. How many tens of thousands of the neighbours have IS killed or brutalized? The neighbours are the main victims.
If we get involved it makes it more likely there will be attacks against us, overseas or in this country. Not saying we should bow to that threat at all - I think we are obliged to join the action against IS because of our role in the 2003 invasion of Iraq - but we have to accept the reality that our involvement makes us a target in their eyes, as today's raids show, and its a huge quagmire which we've already shown we don't fully understand.

Going back to the original post I think it missed the point that everyone is part of a minority in society. There is no dominant majority in Australia, just a huge number of minorities. This is a hard idea for some people to accept. For example, the bloke on 'Living with the enemy' on SBS last night just couldn't get his head around the idea that he and people like him were not the majority. After all, he was the child of Russian I think they were migrants, yet he was carrying on about Anglo Saxons being the majority. Multiculturalism is real and its succeeding in Australia. There is no majority - only lots of minorities learning to live together. Most people seem quite happy about it, but some resist.

Yes they're a threat to Iran Syria and Iraq because of their Shiite (apostate) populations and when that threat is removed there are plenty of Sunni, Jews, Christians and others in that area who don't exactly buy their particular interpretation of a book. They will be eliminated/subjugated also. And then what?

The ISIL graffiti on the ruins reads 'There are no borders, only frontiers'. If you don't get involved you will be attacked anyway. May as well get involved now.
