These raids started being planned way back in May. The terrorist threat was uncovered back then. They spent all this time gathering evidence.

Personally I think this situation is above politics and whether any of us like Tony Abbott or not.

Globally we all face a massive problem with the Islamic State or ISIS or whatever they want to call it. And this now extends to here In Australia.

Like it or not the face of fundamentalism is here and I for one am thankful for our Police and Intelligence organisations to foil these attempts - irrespective if they are real or some young hot heads.

Interesting that some people appear to believe its a government plot for distraction yet want to do dastardly deeds to the people or group that were caught and not yet tried in a court of law....

What always gets me, this is all in the name of religion. History is littered with wars and atrocities over religion. Why have (are) so many of us (as the human race) believe only our religion is the one and true religion and others should either convert to it or pay the consequence.

At least it is more real than the drugs in sport fiasco used to try and divert attention from a rolling budget blow outs.

    So true.
A wise man once said (I can't remember who) "It is the duty of every man to disprove the existance of god" or somthing simillar.
It wasn't John Lennon though But we can only imagine

I do not follow any religion, regulated or not but I believe that the problem is not religion, it is greed for power, money, etc and the people with these greed are using religion manipulation the laws on them to suit their own agenda.
If religion it is not suitable as a tool then in same cases they are using political ideology instead to control the masses and even commit crime.
What happens with the Muslim religion is a clear example of it.
Removing greed for human nature will fix 90% of our problems but then again that it is a dream impossible to make it a reality.

there is a big difference between taking advantage of something and plotting it...

as for the second part of the sentence, agree, yep is strange behavior and they do little for their credibility....

sadly this lot are politicising it way more than it should have been imho

that is not to say the last lot wouldn't have done the same,

i just find it amazing that people consider it acceptable behavior.

before there may have been a handful willing to have a go, if this sort of behavior keeps up there may well be dozens ...

and on the other foot, is the abc going to do something to sanction / pull into line waheed ali over his behavior when interviewing tanya plibersek yesterday?

just amazing what seemingly intelligent people do when it comes to religious fervor...
