and without user involvement, there is no forum.
so lets charge the users.
information has a value.
we the users have that information and now we're being asked to pay.
we had a fair go system before, we provide the information and help to others free and in turn, we're not charged to access other peoples information.
OK, so the forum owner tries all he can to gain sponsorship and and advertising revenue in an attempt to keep it "free" and no doubt shelling out his own hard earned to fill in the gaps. There has to come a point where he can no longer continue with his charity no matter how much he wants to.
Options are, walk away or find an additional source of revenue. He's chosen the second path obviously.
As you say, "because you are feeling argumentative" and "you just putting forward an alternative point of view", it's just unhelpful to put forward this view if it is not for the purpose of being constructive. Why try to stir the pot?

im not trying to be deconstructive however the negatives of the change arnt being looked at/discussed.
im not disputing that.
im pointing out a user pays forum is not the way forward.
over the last 20 years, ive seen a reasonable number of forums go towards a user pays model. most of those forums closed a few years later.
