Thread: Red-Bellied Giant.

I don't mind snakes around either,as they definitely keep the rats and mice population down.

I would rather have pythons around though,than venomous types as we have a dog.

We had a small eyed snake in our yard last summer.They are very similar to a red bellied black in colour,but not as jet black.They are also more salmon pink underneath,not as red as the redbellied black.
They are also extremely quick,and disappear very quickly,unlike the red belly,that will often stop and have a look around and be in no real hurry to move on.

Yeah, they contradict themselves there, in the video clip he says they average 1.5 to 2 metres in length?? But the written report says 1 metre in length. I like the bit where they say the snakes don't get any bigger because they usually run into the end of a shovel.

Must be the spot for them. About this time last year, just away from Redicrete's driveway, I spotted a nice brown sunning itself on the road, probably not big at around 5ft. but about as round as a 50 cent piece and the most magnificent colour (observed from the deck of a scissor lift with my toes well back from the kickboard).

The browns on Cockatoo Island have a thing for Toyota windscreen wipers.

This one was on our back deck.One of the longest i have seen.

I was repairing some fence damage by blocking the hole with our bins one morning a week or two ago, first thing in the morning so my pjs (boxers) and thongs and I damn near trod on a RBB... extracted myself fairly quickly

Nice snake, but as with most of these pics set up to look much bigger than it actually is. Its an old trick that fishermen use. Push out the subject away from the person and take the pic and it looks much larger due to perspective. Remember thos tongs for picking up the snake can be 3ft long.
Still a big snake though.

We get both the Red Bellied Black,the Rough Scaled Tiapan,as well as the Brown,the rough scaled and the brown will chase you across the yard,and it would be a toss up between them as to which is the worst.
