Perhaps you have been there often enough to have become accustomed to the sun being in the wrong part of the sky. After all, what I am talking about is my instinctive reaction.
If necessary, I could use a clock to figure out where north is, but that wouldn't eliminate the feeling that something was wrong.
My calculations might be right, but my gut instinct would be wrong.
As an infrequent visitor north of the Tropic of Capricorn, I even found something mildly disturbing about where the sun was at midday in summer in Darwin. I could work out directions, but the point is I had to think for a moment to work it out instead of it just being instinctive.

Mate, unlike aussstallia, the sun in the north pommy land Russia Germany etc. well you are never actually sure if they have a sun, well not that often and when it is visible its only around for a day at best. and its a lot lower.
they do other things, moss on the south side of a tree. but then you have to locate a tree not totally covered in moss. and if your in a town, its hard to spot the tree under the pile of dog poo.

and when traveling Fanta, usually more available than coke. 1/4 glass and worm water. makes it flat. works well. add crushed charcoal, ( which floats) if you guts are a bit lose as well.
