    100 years of ANZAC

Are you eastern taters aware of the celebrations in Albany next weekend????
Its 100 years since the convoy fleet left Albany for Gallipolli.
There were no ANZACS before this weekend coming. The Aussies and Kiwis united at Albany on their troop ships and away they went.
HUGE weekend planned, they are expecting 60000+ visitors.
Today was bedlam on the highway thru towna week before the event, busier than a Xmas/New Year or Easter weekend, and its a week out
MOST traffic to Albany has to pass thru here.

From my recollection traffic passes through Williams ... and the Police seem to be always present with a speed gun!

But seriously this is an historic event. Hard to believe it is 100 years. My grandfather was on Gallipoli but he was a Scot in the Royal Scot Fusiliers.

Proud of him and everyone that has serviced.

Had meetings last night, all emergency services, gearing up for a influx of 60-70 thousand people into the area. The organising has been huge..

Yes, I am aware of it, but probably did not appreciate how big an event it is in WA.

One point that perhaps should be made is that they did not sail for Gallipoli from Albany - unless I am mistaken the fleet disembarked the Australian soldiers in Egypt, from where they sailed to Gallipoli months later.

We were meant to have two VMR boats down there, one trailered over, one motored, but lost both due to lack of experienced crew available. Damn shame as it would have been an amazing experience and an important bit of history.

Yes, I appreciate that, but I was thinking of the size of the event compared to the local population - similar events have tended to happen in major population centres; Albany is not one of these.
