'radio show' me thinks.....
Nope. I'm an oldy!!That Orson Wells version (as other posters have said) was a radio show in America that people believed was a true alien attack on Earth.
The musical version was produced in 1978 ( nothing to do with the 1938 one) by Jeff Wayne. Jeff actually appeared and conducted the orchestra in the stage show I saw in Sydney.
In 1978 I was a truck driver and I first heard the music on Gosford radio 2GO when I was driving a truck to Sydney, and have loved it ever since.![]()
Here is a clip of the stage show, it was a truly spectacular production and that is Jeff Wayne himself in the foreground conducting the orchestra.

ps Sound is a bit crappy in the clip, but at the show the sound was excellent.
Yeah "show" stupid predictive text.
No one else seen Buckeroo Banzai then?!
We must be of the same vintage , I brought the album when It first came out way back when , then It was brought for me in CD form . I took the good lady to see war of the worlds a few years back at the Melbourne Tennis Centre . That was a great Concert . My son who is now in his mid 30s recently was saying to his partner how he was exposed to It as a child , anyway we put It on . Now that's something I haven't done for quite a while , and guess what , he said do you know dad I quite like It , It's not as bad as It used to be !!..
Yeah I had the album, sent away for the booklet as well. Later bought it on double cassette to play in the car. Had it on CD but lost it in one of my many moves as a younger man with wife n little kids. If I ever see it again I'll buy it again. Love it. Jeff Wayne u da man.
Cheers Rod![]()
Yep, I also have it on vinyl tucked away somewhere. Awesome.
I have a copy of the original on MP3 which I enjoy putting on if Im in for a reasonable drive along dark country roads ... builds the atmosphere..
I also love the 'new' version.

I also have the original vinyl edition with the pictures that came in the booklet. It freaked me out as a kid, but I couldn't get enough of it. My favourite song from the album to this day is: "The chances of anything coming from mars, are a million to one, he said...."
Shame I missed the live production when it was on.
