I agree ,
But tell them you own a 1960s Valiant .....
Or try to get a electric brake controller and Anderson connection - done correctly not on the cheap at a Volvo dealer .
It will challenge you !
I phoned an exhaust place ( used them before, now new owner) to ask if they could do a cashy and weld up a small exhaust leak for me.
When asked what vehicle it was and told them it was a Land Rover, the phone almost dropped, a second silence and the smart response was "if we can find it".
I replied well put it up on the hoist and I'll show you.
Anyway stuff them, I used to spend a bit of money their previously, but now on my blacklist.
I then went to another exhaust place, ( the owner had 2 Toyo 60series, work in progress in his drive way, Oh I thought enemy territory.
But he was most obliging, told me he works on heaps of Land Rover exhausts, and Land Rover money is as good as any one else's money
Getting a bit sick of these places that blow out their toyota exhaust pipes.
What difference does it make if its a Land Rover or a Hyundai. A piece of pipe is a piece of pipe. So the Discos have a stainless steel pipe, big deal.
Maybe if these richards actually took the time and had a look they would realise they are not difficult to work on and stop listening to all the negative comments that people thorough off the cuff so easily.![]()

maybe its not prejudice
maybe its personal experience?
either way, his business must be doing well if he's willing to turn away customers.
I know two very good long established mechanical shops that refuse to work on certain makes/models. One won't book in Peugeot, Citroen, Audi. The other has a printed and framed list of unacceptable makes/models on the counter in their office. Can't remember them except for Audi.

We won't touch citroens. Last one I did had to split the rear calipers to change the discs what a joke as for landys and most other euro trash there good money spinners cause there allways worn out.
When I moved to Tatura 14 years ago I was having heating problems with my 83 RR. We have a radiator repair shop in town so I went and asked how much to rod the radiator if I do the R&R.
Don't touch Range Rovers I was told. Now when removed it is no different to any other old style radiator. Copper core with brass tanks.
Go figure.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

As Roverlord said - one blokes money is as good as any others. I'm regularly dumbfounded how poorly a fair amount of businesses treat their customers. There's a bloke in a Stihl shop nearby who has turned rudeness into an art form + I had some glazing done recently and there was a fault in one of the panes - it took me 3 visits to the shop + 2 months to get it replaced. Haven't they heard of competition ?! I had a boss back in the 80's - a client wanted something done and he didn't want to do it for whatever reason and he said "I'd love to be able to do that for you mate but - etc etc - try so and so down the road " he didn't just sniff or be rude to the bloke. That stayed with me.

To be rude, surly, ill-mannered I thought were parts of the job description to be a car wrecker.

The reason they do it is not that they hate certain vehicles but it's because they are scared of what they don't know.I've spent years in workshops and a CAT ''mechanic'' refuses to work on a Komatsu because they're crap,he's really saying he knows nothing about them and doesn't want to learn because thats the way ''mechanics'' are today. You learn by doing, but thats too much work for todays ''tradesman'',they seem to find time to send text messages though.
