No prizes for guessing which of the changes will be enforced.

No helmet or no ID, easy money. Pass too close, hardly likely, would require some effort.

So all these changes do is penalise cyclists under the pretence of giving them additional safety from dangerous driving

Wow, that's harsh! Over $300 for not wearing a helmet! Is revenue down in NSW? If so, it's about to pick up - blatant revenue raising, nothing more.

As failing to wear a seat belt in a car is $319, I reckon it's fair.
Di they get three demerit points as well? They should.

A car can go a lot faster than a bike. Also, I've never agreed with compulsory helmet laws for push bikes and a lot of other nanny state laws either. I'm not sure why we have to go to such huge lengths to protect people from themselves.

If you extrapolate the way they think, then next we won't be able to drive series Land Rovers as they aren't very safe compared to modern cars - we should all be driving those, and heaven forbid a 101. . Can you image having a prang in your 101? Don't tell the law makers or they'll be a museum piece in minutes...

    Where does it stop?

    Indeed.

Imagine if motorbikes did not exist and going to RMS now and saying "I've invented a wonderful machine, I call it a motorbike, it's an engine on 2 wheels and you sit on top of it. Please approve it"

    I can hear the laughter.......

Why punish the majority to protect the minority from themselves, the gene pool is better off without them.

By all means protect the majority FROM the minority, but that's where many laws, including the new cycling ones, fall down.

What? You reckon seat belts should be optional?
Well, if that's the law, I'll abide by it.

Helmets or no helmets, seat belts or no seat belts, licenses or no licenses I don't care as long as these laws are applied fairly to all road users.

I agree, the law should be fair.

However where one side is enforced but the other side never will be that is not fair, it is just politics masquerading.

Not sure what the fuss is about carrying ID. I always like to take something with me to ID me when I go for a ride just in case something happens. I want my wife to be able to be notified asap.
