Hi
I have setup an irc chat channel on Austnet IRC Network
#aulro is now available!
you will need an IRC program such as Mirc or client in mozilla etc
set the server to irc.austnet.org on port 6667
then join #aulro
and away we go!
takes a hell of a load of the aulro web server as well.
I will set a bot up so files etc can be shared and news etc broadcast.

CNET / download.com is just a file warehouse driven by advertising banners.
They distribute files that the authors upload and update for nothing and sell the advertising on the banners you see when you download a product. They dont package or manipulate any package you may download from them, they would have been out of business years ago if they did.
I dont doubt you may have downloaded a program with bugs from them once but that has nothing at all to do wih cnet or trillian.
trillian contains no spyware.
i installed it, scanned it and tried it before recommending it.
the free version has a tick box you can leave ticked or untick that says you will allow them to track which message formats you use but that is as far as it goes from my investergation.
enabling msn and yahoo opens your machine to the usual worms that infest those message networks, that isnt trillions fault, and if you use a DECENT antivirus program you wont have a problem at all.

tell your browser to download and save the triilian basic software to your mydocuments directory. when it has finnished downloading go to you your mydocuments directory, scan the saved file with your antivirus software by right clicking on it, and then if okay, double click on the file to start the install.
when installed run the program by going to the start menu and selecting it. That will start the setup wizard.
it will ask what networks you wish to use as you install, so if you want msn or aim or yahoo you will need you account info to set them up.
for the irc client pick your username and then use irc.austnet.org as the server and in the conection setup in the perform buffer window you put
/join #aulro
and you are done.
close it and restart it and log into irc.
