    Woohoo I scored a winch!

Now calm down its only a tirfor, buts the real deal and it was free! Comes with cable , bow shakles and drag link chain in a nice ARB dust proof box!

The only pain in the rear is the weight all 48Kg of it 8O

Well done on the freebie. A good winch is a godsend when 4WDing on your own.

ummm....I dont think I need any more mars bars, SWMBO would probably be thankful to see me participate in the odd occasinal workout ops:

As for the extra security im certain this is a handy bit of kit that I wont be leaving at home. Whilst it might be a bit labour intensive, being able to pull the RR from any angle must be a bonus.

Good one. Make sure you set it up and play with it immediately, before you need it in the bush!

I just finished taking my old Warn winch apart to ready it for sale. The freespool wasn't. Does now! You don't get that grief with Tirfors.

As a matter of interest there is a shear pin some where in it if I recall, any one enlighten me where it is and where I can get spares, I assume ARB will have them?

Check inside the handle and you might be blessed with free shear pins. At least thats where theyre often stored.

Reminds me of a new years day trip around 1988 in the Yalwal area, we came to a short steep hill that we were expecting to have to winch (at least 1 vehicle) up.

First off the rank was a Holden Drover (remember them) winched it up with a tirfor all the while thinking if its this hard to pull it up the hill the series 3 phase 1 was going to be a real bastard.

As the drover came over the top lip of a ledge we realised by the way it was moving that all was not right.

    Wait for it

The guy had it in reverse and we had winched against engine compression turning it over backwards all the way up the hill.

The Landrover only needed a small hand, that wasn't too hard after all.
