Unfortunately there is no real substitute for Lard for the pastry I need. I have a couple of leads now, which I'll get onto shorty. Thanks for all your advice and offers.

Thanks heaps for the offer. . I'll keep you posted. If I have no luck by early next week, I will take you up on it if you don't need it for Chrissy. I'll be ordering some at some stage, but I can't get a delivery before Christmas now, but in the new year I could replace it.

And as I sit here the dog is munching through fried cray fish antenna from today's catch & he had some eye fillet for lunch.

    Lucky I don't spoil him.

I distinctly remember mucky fat butties during after hours in a pub in Ilkley. Assume you're making suet.

No suet is different to lard.

Making a short lard pastry. It's an old family recipe. I need the pasty for both the Pork pie and the mince tarts. It's really not the same trying to do it differently, even though it is a bugger to make and takes ages. I can substitute about 25% butter in the mince tarts, but it makes them a bit crumbly.

I'm sure I've seen it in the local supermarkets.
I'll have a look when I put my Tatts on tomorrow.
    How much do you want?
