    nsw national parks

hey guys, this morning i rang a national parks office asked them for imfomation regarding the famous Wirraba ridge trail. All was good until i asked if i could get 4wd access to the trail, at which point i was yelled at NO! we will not let any 4x4 vehicle in there!. i did not bother arguing with her, or saying anything more than thanks for your time. i really find there behaviour and attitude disgusting. they treat the average 4wder like they are pure evil and they truly believe that the land is theirs, and only theirs, and no one else should be allowed in.

    And now this

Deua National Park | NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service
Campground and road closures - Deua National Park Due to recent floods and ongoing wet weather we are advising the public that Bendethera campground is closed and may remain closed over the coming Christmas holiday period. High water levels in the river have made it impossible for staff to make an assessment on the safety of the 3 crossings in the valley. Merricumbene, Dry Creek and Oulla Creek fire trails are closedand will remain closed until inspections can be carried out by NPWS staff. Dry Creek campground will also remain closed until further notice. Further access updates will be will be issued on Wednesday 24/12/14. For more information, please contact the NPWS Narooma office on (02) 4476 0800
They don't seem to put much effort into things, I bet the creeks/rivers dropped quite a while ago now (heavy rain was at the start of Dec)
Moruya, NSW - December 2014 - Daily Weather Observations

If they had their way nobody would be allowed into a national park, they seem the forget they are managing the land on behalf of the people of Australia.

If they had their way they would ban everyone except the walk in walk out crap in a bag and take it out with you brigade.

Yet another example of the lowest common denominator solution to every problem. Don't hammer the group or individuals that do the wrong thing. Just ban everyone. It is less effort to do it that way.

Reminds me of that sketch in Little Britain

Access to the Putty Road end of the Wirraba Ridge Trail is through private property (or at least it was private property) and the property owners stopped access many years ago. So you cant get to that end even if NP&WS would permit travel on the track.

You do realise that one of the Sydney 4WD clubs went in there in the late 1970s and used dynamite on the climb, so is there any wonder NW&PS don't allow access.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

as far as I'm aware, it was the army that used dynamite on the trail for training purposes. national parks really shouldnt have the right to lock us out of our land, their job is to manage it, not close all the tracks. in my opinion the best way for them to manage trails is by keeping gates on them, and before you go to drive the track, you organise with it np, giving them your rego, name etc.. then if there is considerable track damage, or rubbish they can look at who was in there at that time.

The Army may have but the episode I'm talking about were Jeeps.

As for the NP&WS, they are funded to manage the parks, they are given huge areas of the National estate to manage with a very small budget and few rangers to control the areas under management. The cheapest option for them is to put locked gates on the access points.

That is outside the issue of the NP&WS mostly employing appropriatly qualified staff as managers and rangers, which usually means people with ecology or zoology degrees, who would like nothing more than locking up the citizens in high rise apartments and not letting them anywhere near the national parks.

The cheapest option is one they have successfully implemented a number of times - "Wilderness" then they don't even maintain it.

One of the worse groups is the National parks Association (NPA). I sat on a National Parks Advisory Committee for 6 years (IIRC) believe me that was an eye opener.

When I did my Science degree, I did lectures/tutes with some of the ecology program students. They would think nothing of and didn't care less of the starving millions and African babies living in abject poverty, so long as the long nosed, short legged, hairy tailed whatsit fish-lizard were protected. They hated 4WD with a passion, but were happy to have a ride in my Rangy when going out on field trips or paleontological digs and were glad I was along because I had all my regular camping gear and the things that make for some comfort in the bush (particularly the fridge).

These people only get jobs in conservation groups, the public service and national parks, they have no qualifications for anything else.

If they were Jeeps it was probably just a petrol mishap. . Err...that's a Jeep joke. Jeeps use lots of fuel so they can burn it all inside the motor before they catch on fire.

That is a large brush you are painting with. I have worked with academic people I even renamed my title as an academic baby sitter unofficially. But we need these people as they provide balance. As for the starving kids, stop producing them problem solved. They also loved 4wd as it got them to were they needed to go.
