I got to agree, we've met some really nice chaps and ladies on here. Many who are now friends. People we wouldn't have met other ways.

I'm one of those that tends to be a browser on a lot of forums without joining simply because I tend to get into arguments.

However this site is more than a place to just go and talk about Land Rovers its a resource and resources are not free. I've never really thought about the cost of running forums but since Inc has bought it to my attention I'm happy to put my hand in my pocket. Currently I have paid the $11 purely to see how the changes affect the forum if it continues to be the same resource it has been then I will up my subscription next year.

I paid this morning when I realised that I couldn't access squat!
I'll be very honest. I'm just suck it and see at the moment. It has ****ed me off over the last year at how many people just post in the general area. Just click on some of these guys stats and see. I'm convinced some people don't even realise it's a Land Rover forum.
I'll see how many people that I have enjoyed reading there posts stay and I'll assess from there.
Can I just say though. While I agree that $11 is a small price to pay. The forum does not give us anything we don't contrbute to. Yes I have saved money. But I hope my experiences have saved others money to. If the olds and holds leave and the knowledge base leaves too than $11 or $27 or whatever counts for nothing.
It's sad but true. This forum is the sum of the participants, not the money raised.

OK. I retract my last post. After emptying the crap out I can now read the pinnacles. I use C Cleaner if that's any help to anyone.

I was never aware that it cost so much to run and thought the ads would cover it. I even click on the ads, not because I am interested but because I thought that earned funds for the site.

For me, AULRO was mostly reading ( lurking) at first, then I started to do some posts, then threads. Once I learnt of costs involved in running the site & considering the value against, say, club membership, I became a subscriber.
I really think those that want to get value out of the forum should help out.

It puzzles me that the tone of Garrycols post was that he seems think that his expertise should exempt him from paying a share to keep the forum open & his leaving is "payback".
Good thing most of us see the sense in a team effort.

I'll keep helping with technical support as that is my nature.

can't believe garrycol expects to have this site available to HIM.

the writing has been on the wall for a long time.

if garrycol pulls his plug because he doesn't want to help meet operational costs, what happens if INC pulls his plug for the same reason.

sounds like some horribly selfish thinking.

1 small piece of advice could save you hundreds of $$$. It was advertised all over the forum for months before the change took place. Too many people expect everything for free, without any regard to the cost that someone has to bare. Servers, bandwidth, time etc do not come free.
I have been a subscriber for a few years now, and the amount of knowledge I have gained, not to mention some great friends, is worth every cent I have spent.
You cant please all of the people all of the time. Keep up the great work, Inc.

that it is, but the servers that hold the data and the bandwidth that disseminate that information is what costs the big bucks...

the servers themselves are worth in excess of 10k and the bandwidth charges aren't to be sneezed at and are many hundreds of dollars a month...
