90% of all road accidents are caused by sober drivers...

... therefore it is safer to drive in the other 10%!!

There has to be a limit set in place, be it 0.00, 0.05, or 0.08.

The biggest problem is that people metabolise alcohol in different ways. I have friends who would be tipsy after 1 drink, but still be below 0.05. I have others that could down a half a carton, and still be legal.

I have had nights where a couple of bottles of (good) scotch have gone down, with friends, but felt perfectly fine. I probably would have gone over the limit, but didn't even contemplate risking it to find out.

I have always said to my daughter & her friends that if you are going to drink, keep some money aside for a taxi fare. Or you ring me, and I will come & get you. I would much rather go out at 4am to collect them from a party or night club, than visit them in hospital.

However, they also know NOT to call if they have been done DUI. Simply put, they have options available to them, and if they choose to take the wrong one, then they will have a nice walk home to contemplate the lecture they will get. Oh, and I don't post bail either.

I worked yesterday, leaving home not long after daybreak. I was amazed to see about half a dozen cars parked at different locations along the Ipswich Motorway, maybe the RACQ couldn't fix them.

To paraphrase a now dead muso that I saw a few times , " driving interferes with my drinking". Words to live by. Therefore always on the lookout for a designated driver

at about a 100k per year ? aint going to happen . what about fatigued drivers ? often i had been coerced into double shifts and fell asleep behind the wheel on parramatta road. is this better or worse than driving under the influence ?

Not possible. To many things unknown to us can have small amounts of alcohol.

It is for this reason, although not made public, that P platers are actually allowed to be up to .019, in Vic anyway.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."
