So an ordinary pair of jeans will give a good percentage probability of protection then?

    Correct, and sneakers.

I removed a Brown from the Management team building yesterday. It turned so I stood still and let it slide over my shoe past brushing my leg.

Then casually picked it up and took it for a walk to the perimeter fence.

I run a mile when I see a snake out in the paddocks.

Unfortunately I had to kill a brown some years back. It became rather aggressive and would not back off. If I moved away from it , it followed at about a tomato stake distance. I would rather it turned away and I would have left it in peace.

Education is the best thing when it comes to snakes, some good advice given above. If your company or community group ever plans a snake handling course then volunteer asap. Sadly I missed out on the last as roster didn't line up.

Tombie I'm guessing your employer/client ran a snake handling course in the past and hence your designated workplace snake removal duties?

    Correct!

They asked for volunteers... My hand flew up.. No-one else's did

Eventually we got 4 people willing to be trained (I have previous snake experience anyway) and a trainer, along with his companions came to site.

I've had Black, Brown, Taipan and Death Adders I've had to handle now and whilst it provides a bit of adrenalin at the time, the control is easy.

I've had a DA strike my boot, leaving it covered in venom... And the Taipans are always challenging - especially when curled up on troopy gearboxes....

The number of snakes that have now slid across my feet, tapped my leg etc is quite high... I just keep still and let them pass and then either deal with them or let them keep on moving...

They are magnificent creatures, treated with respect they are harmless.
