Nature at work by AustralianOutdoors

    Hi all

I just had to send this true and bloody funny story to you guys as I know you will appreciate the situation. I wrote this story a couple of days ago when that big storm hit the southwest of WA.

It is April 1st 2005 and I am on the South Coast of WA. The weather has been sunny and warm until today.

It started to rain during the night and the wind decided to show its strength. The Caravan rocked and the wind howled and the sky let loose with a massive amount of water. There was not much I could do except brave the elements to see that everything was secure and ride out the storm. I could hear trees breaking nearby and the wind happily sung its tune of destruction. I went outside and was immediately blown against the Caravan then tastefully drowned by mother nature. It was a beauty of a storm. I got out my four shortened star pickets and proceeded to 'peg down' the Caravan by throwing ropes over the van and securing to the four pickets, which I had placed two on each side.

I was wet through, yes absolutely drenched to the skin and very cold. I was sure that any moment the van was about to blow onto its side. It was fine, once I secured it. I put away my tools and headed for the dry warm van and tripped over one of the ropes I had just installed. My left foot caught the rope and whilst trying to maintain balance I grabbed for the rope and missed, did a half turn and landed on by bum at which time my right hand quickly and accurately found a wet dog turn to land on. This turd was very wet and very slippery and my hand took off in a direction which was not associated with natural movement and I landed with my arm behind my head and my lower left side firmly saying G'day to the now well splattered turd. I was not a happy camper and whilst getting up I discovered I had twisted my shoulder which was very painful. As we were Bush Camping and no one was around, I decided to throw all my wet and doggy flavoured clothes just outside the door and deal with them later after the storm.

So, there I was, cold, naked and damaged - and about to get more damaged as you will soon learn.

I headed to the door and caught my foot on some wet clothes some fool had left near the door and lost my balance, stumbled forward and head butted the door. I was in a semi crouched position with most of my weight being on my neck (remember I head butted the door). So, I placed both hands on the van to upright myself and with the van being wet I slipped and hit my shin on the steel doorstep and put my left hand down to brace my fall - right on some wet clothes - and the turd!!

The very heavy rain washed me clean again and I limped straight into the beautiful warm van holding my shoulder. My wife, who had slept through everything just woke up and said," Do you want to take the dog for a walk as he might need to go to the toilet!!!! "**** the dog", I said.

Sounds like you have had better days. Sorry to say it but i had a little giggle. The thing is with dog turds, no matter where they are someone always treads on them, or in this case sticks their hand in it. I hope you dont have many more camping experiences like this. Matt

I have heard the military is working on a weapon which is a cross between a land mine and a dog turd - the enemy is guaranteed to step on the bastard. :!:

Do they stick to your shoes and then wait till you get back to camp before they go off? Just like dog turds. Matt

What sort of bait do you use to catch skippy. Do gum leaves work?

It is funny, and the best thing is you can now look back on the whole ordeal and laugh. Life would be boring without stories like these.

Was at the local sailing club regatta with dad at lunch time today. One of the sailors put his beer down to pay for his lunch and another picked it up and poored it all over his sausage sandwich without looking, thinking it was sauce. Very funny it was. Turds and Fishing

    Hey LandyAndy

I was speaking to a guy and his gal this morning and they were in Bremer when the storm was on. He said there were thousands of Mullet trying to get over the sandbar as the water rose. The guy showed me a video clip - it was amazing. The towns people turned up and gathered hundreds.

The whole story including photos will be coming my way next week and it will be featured on the website.
