The reason why they said to keep the door closed it is because the knobs are not designed or made to receive the heath from the oven.
Try to put the tray with the chips on the grill at high settings and once the are dry then change the setting to fan force oven at 220.

Probably more to protect the electronics that run the oven that are included in the display unit. You can hardly read ours, its very dim.Probably caused by opening the oven to let it cool after using it.If you leave the door closed it can run up to 45 mins cooling itself.

Why not just stick with a good ole deep fryer with a good oil? We use canola. How often do you cook with a fryer? Everything in moderation! Schnitzels get pan fried.

I use our deep fryer once every two weeks on average. If for fish and chips, the chips get double or triple fried and the fish gets double fried. Excellent results, particularly with mushy peas and curry sauce (if my wife doesn't make her special tartare sauce). Hmmm. Did it with deep sea cod this last weekend.

Sorry that this post isn't that helpful towards your original question. How do the air fryers work when you have battered fish. Pretty messy I expect?

I have a Tefal and use it all the time to do chips. Just cut them a little bit smaller than I would if deep frying them and cook them for a little bit longer than the recommended time and they are great.

I have tried the same in the fan forced oven but not the same result. The "agitator" for want of a better name turns them so that they cook evenly. In the oven you have to keep taking them out and doing it manually.

Chips for four persons with only a spoonful of good quality virgin olive oil - very healthy way to put a feed of chips next to a nice slab of grilled fish
