Anybody use the air fryers?????
Looking at either a deep fryer, but preferably the air fryers as they are healthier and able to cook more foods.
Looked at the Philips and Tefal units, the Tefal Deluxe unit seems the go,larger cooking area, dual timers for cooking a meal that needs seperate coing time,ie fish and chips. The Tefal unit gets thumbs up on foodie websites for its cooking job but thumbs down for its quality.
Fish and chips will be the main meal cooked.I can panfry crumbed fish to perfection, fail badly on battered fish in the large frypan, chips are a dissapointment,we resort to frozen chips, which our Smeg oven does a very good job of cooking. It fails with handmade chips.

I've got an airfryer and I love it, basically its just a small oven with limited temp range though, so if you're expecting something totally different then you may be disappointed. I like mine because I used to deep or shallow fry lot of the food that I now air fry so it's a much healthier option for us.. I use it for chips, chicken legs, spring rolls - pretty well anything that you can fry or cook in an oven you can do in the air fryer.![]()

We have a Philips one here Andrew, it arrived just before Christmas and it gets a workout.
Bacon tends to create a bit of smoke
Open windows or a very good exhaust fan is a must.
Or do what I did the first time it happened, carry it onto the back verandah and continue.![]()
G'day Andrew.
I am an air fryer convert. I used to love my deep fryer.....still do, but it was so messy and as we all know, not real healthy. But the chips were just heaven. It has taken a while, but I have perfected my technique. The Phillips manual recommends to soak the chips in water for an hour prior to cooking, I skip this now and just massage them in oil and sea salt. Then, cook them for twice as long as necessary, mixing them up between intervals. The end result is 90% as good as the old deep fryer. But.....I think you can't beat a deep fryer for seafood
Regards
Robbo
Cant really see that they are any different to a fan forced oven , but might be a bit quicker , I reckon you cant beat a good fry up but moderation is the key .
