Yesterday was our last day at the fire, its reasonably safe at the moment.Ironically as I completed my last tast, signing off on a section of a closed Williams Shire road that I was happy to have it re-opened the work phone rang.A farm fire in Williams. Was another late finish, all under control.
Will post some pics from the last couple of days shortly, they are almost uploaded.

    A final selection of photos.
I have seen all sorts of mining gear at the fire.CAT 16H graders,CAT Dozers from D6 up to D10,and lots of them.Plenty of loaders of all breeds and sizes. Was impressive to see 2 D10 dozers tracking along a gravel road like daleks pushing over trees that were dangerous, they had a CAT 980 loader following behind cleaning up.I didnt see this water cart in action,it would have been a handy weapon on a fire front!!!!

    A few fire damage photos.

A backburn that went slightly pearshaped!!!!! The hill was a problem and would have been burnt on sunday by the fire in extreme conditions,it would have been un-controlable.There was a house, sheds and shearing shed plus the Boddington Bauxite mine conveyor line cuts thru the hill,it cant be seen in the pics. The fire was lit at the top of the hill.

Things then go wrong, embers jump the top of the conveyor belt cutting a gap of several hundred meters, its tiger country and vehicles cant get up there. In come the helitacs to put out the hop over.It was a show I will never forget, those chopper pilots are unbelievable!!!!

The show was over, the hill backburnt, the main part self extinguished as planed, the helitacs extinguishing the hop over.

Finally and sadly. The remains of the long gully railway trestle bridge built in 1949 and surviving until this week.It was built to haul jarrah logs from the forrest. It was these days part of the Bibbulman wark trail.

Hi Andrew, just head on the TV that someone over there has started more fires . Tell you what I wouldn't like to be in there shoes if they get caught.
The fire that was started today by someone, was that any where you are.
    Heather.

The fires today were just outside the metro area in Baldivis just south of Rockingham. They were started yesterday and the Southern suburbs copped another smoke haze yesterday afternoon/evening. We were wondering where it was coming from until we saw the news.

Thanks for posting all these photos Andy, and for giving the inside story, you've put a lot of effort in on both fronts.

    Cheers

    Thumbs up

    Mmmm Marron

Seeing as they migrate between 'ponds', on/near a full moon apparently, I'd be checking the moon phase charts, could be some out there nicely cooked if they were out walking over hot coals...

    Yeh I know, tasteless comment...

Would seem that it is going to be a long fire season for WA, a couple of days ago Mrs Medic deployed as part of the IMT of a an 80+ QFES team, they have been told that they will be away for 7-9 days initally with every chance that it will be longer.....
