    Eating Disorders- an update

    Gday All,

Several people have messaged asking how our youngest daughter is getting on with her battle with Annorexia. Well im pleased to say she ( we ) are on the road to recovery, I don't know if it ever gets a full 100% recovery but we are along way ahead of where we were. She is now been told that her body is getting back to the lower end of where someone her size/age should be.

Its been 6 months , and the hardest 6 months of both my wife and my life , and am darn sure it has been hard for our daughter. I would hate to think how many visits to doctors, specialists, nutriconists etc we have been to, and not to mention the people we have met along the way with kids that have battled this terrible condition for far longer than we have.

Our case was slightly different as our daughter became obsessed with fitness and all the so call fitness diets that go with it, which resulted in her not eating correctly. The amount of time it took to break the habit of reading every ingredient on every packet of food we went to buy drove me mad. My simple brains says if your hungry you eat, but I guess that's why its such a hard sickness to understand.

As a parent I can only say please keep a close eye on your kids, and if you suspect something is wrong, jump on it... our mistake was noticing it and talking to our daughter about it but not doing anything about it because she said all was ok. If we had done something when we first noticed it, things would have been a lot easier for all of us.

Our thanks to everyone for there concern and there wishes

    Cheers Ean

Many years ago my wife's sister in her early twenties was close to death from Anorexia, only just avoided by my wife signing to have her committed to allow the necessary medical attention to be provided. Not good for family relationships as the sister and the rest of the family refused to accept the hospital's diagnosis, wanting to persist with more testing for obscure causes. The sister survived to raise her child and live a normal life.
