    SWMBO Stranded!

As you may be aware there is a Cyclone off NQ which is causing a fair bit of rain.
SWMBO drove the kids up to the school bus this morning & discovered that her Delica (petrol) only just got across the creek that crosses our drive way.
So, being a clever SWMBO she put a rock at the water mark on the way back & went & checked regularly all day. At about 1.30 she decided that it was raining so heavily she had better drive the 10k into town & get the kids from school.
This all went well except she got held up at the school when 1 of the teachers wanted to have a talk, this held her up for about an hour.
So, she got back to the creek that crosses our drive & could not see her rock, problem she thinks, get out in the pouring rain & sees the creek has risen & is flowing harder.
She phones me (at work 900k away) & says she not confident to cross the creek & she has put a new rock at the water mark & will wait it out.
I phone her back an hour or so later & the water is rising, it's pouring & she is on her 3rd rock because they keep going under water.
I tell her to go to town & find somewhere to stay, she says that she can't turn the car around due to boggy conditions & that the rain has scoured a dig ditch along 1 side of our dirt driveway & she says there is no expletive deleted way she is reversing up & down steep hills, around bends & across gullies back to where she might be able to turn around.
OK I said you have to do it so it's your call.
Called back a little while ago & the water is dropping back to about where it was a couple of hours ago but she says now it's dark it would want to drop a lot further before she will cross the creek. Very lucky she has some how has bread, cheese, cordial & some muesli bars in the car & the dog.
She seems to be resigned to the fact she is spending the night there & except that the kids are starting to play up she seems organized. has folded the seats down into a big bed, has feed the kids & dog, has re marked the water with a stick & rock & will phone the school tomorrow morning to say the kids will be away for the day (they are not going to have a great sleep).
She is a little ****ed off she is only 200 meters from home but can't get there but is happy that she will not risk either their lives or the car (she loves that Delica).
Although I feel pretty useless being so far away & yes, I did offer to phone a friend & she just said what are they going to do?, I am happy that it is her decision & she has made it.
I'll phone first thing tomorrow & see how things are - not much more I can do.

Sounds like she is a pretty sensible woman and has things under control, a wise decision not to cross the creek especially in the dark. Hope it all works out well mate, reckon the mozzies will give them hell tonight.

I can understand the frustration of being so far away, but sounds like she has made a smart , if uncomfortable choice...

Far better to be safe than sorry.

One more adventure for the kids to look back on in later life

    Hope all ends well....

Well, one can only say good on SWMBO for being so sensible and clear headed in a difficult situation.

I suspect that if it had been a typical male in that situation (ie. You or I) , we would have probably said "bugger it, we're going to risk it", possibly with dire consequences!

So you'll be able to sleep well tonight, knowing your sensible wife has the situation under control. Suggest you buy her a bunch of flowers and/or chocolates to thank her and to compensate her for all the inconvenience.

    Smart woman

She needs a medal for being so sensible, her action are to be applauded The story you have posted is better than reading or listening about stupid action in the media.

    SWMBO is home.
She phoned me some time after 10 last night (I was asleep) to say the creek had continued to drop & she could see her original rock, on the other side, so she waited another 3/4 of an hour & then crossed.
She did say the adrenalin was pumping & that the car did wiggle a bit. Our Autistic boy had his eyes closed, the other kids thought it was a hoot.
The school bus is not running this morning about which she is relieved because she doesn't have to even think about crossing it again.
She did say she was quite happy with herself that she had handled the whole thing pretty well & who needed a husband anyway!

Good to hear, and yes I also reckon she handled it very well. But I think the last comment is unfair - next time she needs you to do something remind her of that comment.
