The Burke and Wills Tree at Birdsville was marked as part of the Burke and Wills expedition in the 1800s. Local history records that this Coolibah Tree, on the banks of the Diamantina River bears the marking BW-C76 1860. It was marked by a party which later traced the route taken by Burke and Wills. Burke cut only the letter 'B' and camp number's in Roman Numerals.

As far as I know the expedition was called The Victorian Exploring Expedition. Only later was it called the Burke and Wills, therefore any tree marked B&W is regarded as non- genuine.

The tree is at Camp 76 of Bourke and Wills Expedition, which is what I was refering too, not the blaze on the tree.

So I think Bushie has it.

Well the people in the pic have certainly changed, but I doubt the location has.
