Hello to all the Landy lovers,
This is my first post to AULRO but I have been lurking around the forum for years reading through all of the build threads and restorations. I have found it a great recourse for information and inspiration!
My name is Sam, I have been a Landrover lover ever since a kid when my Nan bought me a Corgi model S3 station wagon and horse float . I spent hours playing with it in the garden and have it still to this day.
As a young bloke I got madly into 4 wheel drives and overlanding. I have spent many weekends out in the bush and holidays driving through remote Australia. When it came to vehicles I was loyal to my Nissan Patrols however. An overland trip on the Southcoast in a friends 300tdi defender rekindled my love for Landrovers.
In the last 4 years I have with out realizing it,I have taken countless photos of old Landrovers, these have mainly been series Landy’s but there has also been some Range Rovers, Discoveries and Perenties in the mix.
While taking pictures of these vehicles I have had some amazing conversations with their owners. I have been entertained with tales of adventure and anecdotes of why they wouldn’t own anything but a Landrover. The owners have shared so many interesting tales with me that I would now love to share them with others who love stories of an adventure and these iconic old cars.
I have decided to start compiling these stories and pictures into a nice shiny coffee table book I am looking to self-publish. Although I have spoke to many owners about their vehicles, I am still looking for more to include in the book.
I am putting it out there to the AULRO community to get in touch with me, share your photos and stories and have a chat about your trusty old Rover. I am also interested if you know anybody i can contact who may have a great tale to tell.
I am based in WA but happy to talk via skype/phone or email to people located in other areas of Australia.
This is a passion project of mine to share the rich history of these vehicles from the point of view of people who own and depended on them. I plan to sell a number of copies for people to enjoy but I would like to make it clear this is not a large commercial venture.
I look forward to hearing from you all and I am very excited for what you may have to share with me. I hope that during these tough times at the moment you are stay safe and get to enjoy some time with the people (and Landrovers) that mean the most to you.
I have attached some recent pictures below, I also have an instagram pager called Old_landrover which you can take a look at if you are interested .
Send me a personal message or comment on the thread below and I can get in touch with you to talk further.
Thanks,
Sam
