    I'm thinking more tropics, that looks like an area that takes a good flow of water and then dries out (pretty stagnant looking in the pic), so up in the gulf somewhere ? not red enough for the Kimberleys.

    (but I don't know where)

    Google search on (gorge gulf area australia "grey rock") images makes me think Copperfield Gorge on the Copperfield River
