    I wait with trepidation

Coming home this morning doing around 70k when a car coming towards me flashed its lights. I glanced at the speedo and eased back thinking that a camera vehicle was up ahead. Imagine my surprise when the vehicle reached me and it was a highway patrol. Double points and fines. I hope he was only warning me. Jim

I have often wondered who thought this one up ? Double points , double fine . I fail to see how if your speeding one day , that speeding the next is any more or less dangerous .The only thing I can think of , is It is to help cover extra pay costs . I know don't speed , and you won't get fined ! There is no denying they like the extra revenue !!.. Jim

I think it's more that easter is an extra dangerous time as there seems to be more foolish people out on the road who would have normally stayed at home watching the footy.

Good footy matches this weekend, hey?

If he didn't pull you over at the time, I'd be surprised. That said, it's not unknown.

    Mobile flash for cash?

Are the fines doubled or just the demerit points?

In reallity that flash may have been a smirk !!

I'd bet that he was one of those kids at school that was always dobbing in other kids to the teachers.

Jimbo, in NSW the HWP pull you over to fine you so if they let you past, you're ok. From what I can tell, during holidays the HWP approach is to be very visible on the roadside and on the road and keep moving around to moderate driver behaviour. The mobile cameras are another thing entirely ... having driven Wollongong to Brisbane on easter Saturday (in appalling weather) the HWP were very visible and I saw one at least every 1/2 hour and we saw at least 3 mobile speed traps. The rain and the cops kept the idjuts under control and we had a nice drive apart from the weather. We drove our 6.0 Holden so we are very speed aware as it gets away from you easily ...

Ian, double demerits in NSW at least, but not double fines.
