Why should we have to go through some stupid bureaucrap execise which will probably not save 1 life on the roads or near schools!
Why not push for an another licence for the drivers of tarted up delivery vans used to take the kids to school as the vision out of them is just as bad and they also obstruct other drivers vision?
Of course all the loonies like Harold Scruby and Grant Dorrington (Pedestrian Council WA) will only be happy when the little man with a red flag gets his job back.
A mate of mine retired as a Senior Inspector copper a few years ago and he reckoned the most dangerous driver on the roads was a woman taking her kids to school.
He said "They're always late and will run over other peoples kids to get theirs to school on time!"
I dont see them supporting the licence idea as not supporting us. I think they are merely showing the public that we are open to suggestions. I also dont see the licence as a bad thing, most of us will have done some driver training anyway. The logistics of the RTA retraining all 4wders would be a nightmare. As a result there will be registered trainers within clubs and also the courses you can pay to do, I am just assuming and hoping these courses can be done and a certificate provided, the certificate is then taken to the RTA and this is marked on your licence. Must be our turn again, 4x4 bashing..... :? As usual, pick on one or two incidents, find a common denominator and beat it up to all and sundry through ignorance and sensationalism. You could pick any group you could think of and do the same thing. For example, many prostitutes smoke cigarettes, therefore all smokers are prostitutes?? A Current Affair and Today Tonight have never been known to be fair in their "stories" and it is about inciting public hatred for one group or another. They are proponents of the "never let the truth get in the way of a story" ethic of journalism delivered by gutless talking heads. At least Derryn Hinch had opinions and expressed them openly!! Not that I particularly like Derryn Hinch, mind you. Sure beats the snide looks and tone of voice by Naomi Robson and her ilk.

In my opinion, the responsibility falls squarely on the nut that hold the steering control! Every motor vehicle has one. Blaming the 4x4 driver, the doof-doof driver or the builder ute, the truckie etc. etc. etc. for every accident is foolish. It is the driver that makes a vehicle dangerous, not the type of vehicle they drive.

The driver is responsible for making sure the way is clear to proceed. Accidents happen because people DON'T LOOK! I really hate that "I didn't see..." excuse. They simply didn't look. If you can't see from the drivers seat, GET OUT and check.

I always walk around the back of my vehicles before I get in and drive off. I can see everything and everyone I need to keep an eye on and guess what? I've never hit anything!

Anyone for the soap box now that is free once more....?

I for one do not like the media and what it has become, All they are after is ratings and have nothing to do with bringing you real news, personally these days if a current afair is exposing a shonky person I have my doubts as to the real reason behind their story. I have actually seen them produce from the editing suite a completley different story than what was actually said because it would bring more ratings, this actually tarnished a doctors reputation within their community. They are a pack of scumbags and I get frustrated everyday as this extends to programs like Dr Harrys practice, Totally wild and other generally harmless thought of programs.

If they say the grass is green, I will go out and check for myself

Its quite obvious that these tv shows and other forms of media are 4wd bashing because it gets the ratings. Take the reversing over kids segment i mentioned earlier in the thread. The VY Commodore is the worst car in Australia for rear view. Did the name of the segment have anything to do with Commodores. No way did it!!! It was all about 4wd's and how bad they are. Why? Because thats what the people in the city, who dont drive a 4wd, want to hear. Its starting to get beyond a joke. Matt

The two things I love in life 4x4 and motorbikes both road and dirt seem to be getting targeted all the time by morons who do not live in the real world. These dorks basically live in the city and would be lucky to venture further than their local mall anyway. A good example of bias the other morning I got ticketed for doing 122kms in a 110km zone, fine I will cop it sweet as I was speeding. The bit that annoys me is that most of the traffic was doing 120-130kmsph. Reason I got picked up is I was riding a red Duacati and as it is a red Ducati must be more dangerous than the Cruiser or Commodore that passsed me. Same the week before heading home from Kal was about half way through town, Paddy wagon spied me on the Red Ducati and immediately turned around and tailed me for about 10kms, did not matter that I was not speeding or had no defects. The thing that amazed me was the car in front of me was pulling away in a 60km zone and I was doing spot on 60kmph, the same in the 70 zone and again in the 90zone and the 110 zone. The car ahead had to be doing 130 by the time we got into the 110zone. Did the police overtake me and go after the car no followed me until they realised I was not going to speed for them and then turned around and went back to town.

It all depends on the cop you get, by the sounds of it you got one that hates bikers, there are all kinds. The ones who breath test outside B&S balls usually hate utes. Thats just bias in itself. Matt

I might be alone in this, but I don't see a seperate license for heavy 4WD's as an issue, I've driven heavy vehicles most of my working life, and all the good habits I developed I've carried across to cars & 4WD's, and some of the bad 8O
Every day I drive to work I see people in heavy vehicles speeding, tailgating and bullying, people who don't buy and drive 4WD's for the purpose they were designed are the people I believe these special licenses should be targeted at.

Tailgaters and people who park illegally or speed around schools and local streets are my pet hate..........and I tell em so!

Justy my two bobs worth. Cheers Scott. 8)
