I have a 99 Freebie, I have it on good authority that I do not have much to worry about as my tyres are not scrubbing.

If you don't have a problem with the fuel consumption, the the V6 auto should be a good one too. Though I've not driven the V6, from what I hear, the V6 is a bit de-tuned from what it could be.
I run a very early '98 Camel Freelander (based on the XEDi). I've had some problems but I don't do lots of KM in it.
IMO... Stay clear of the 1.8 petrol versions.
