I reckon it's a BMC.
Hello All,
I have been offered the chance to take away an old motor. It looks like the front section of its old chassis was made into a frame for a stationary motor. It used to be hooked up to a water pump on a farm.
My apologies for the quality of the two photographs. It looks like there is a dog for a crank start on the front of the motor and a hole going from the front frame and radiator support.
Any ideas? I can visit the pump for some better photographs if these ones are too bad to be of any help.
There is no visible name written on the radiator or the engine block.
Then again there could be if I knew where to look!
Kind Regards
Lionel
I reckon it's a BMC.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
I'd say pre-BMC, Austin/Morris probably but definitely an anchor now.

Dredging into my memory most BMC ( British) motors have the inlet and exhaust on the left, and also the starter motor on the left as they were made for Right hand drive to leave room for a steering column.
So I would be thinking USA or Europe.

Its not that old as it has a downdraft carby and an oil filter. How about a Vanguard/Triumph/Ferguson.

I'd agree with Philip it certainly looks like an old "grey fergie tractor" motor so perhaps out of a standard vanguard car remains
Here's a pic of a tractor motor which looks very similar
Hello Jerry V8Ian, PhilipA & Scouse,
Following on from your leads I did a quick check and Standard Vanguard also made engines for TE Ferguson tractors (Accessed 21/06/15 from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_Vanguard).
Despite this I have never come across so many photographs of cars without someone taking a happy snap of the bonnet open showing the motor!
I will have another look at the motor and go equipped with a camera this time and take my own photographs.
Kind Regards
Lionel
100% its a vanguard, with a BMC probably A55 - A65 air cleaner on it.
cant argue that's what it is, the only motor with a head cast around the push rods like that and the 45 deg angle between the inlet and exorst manifold
My fergie tractor was a 1954 model
